Photographing the starry sky is next to impossible because of the light pollution in the cities. At your parents' house deep in the countryside, the prospects of shooting the sky should be much better.

You need a tripod, a wide aperture and manually setting focus not nearer than the hyperfocal distance of your particular camera + objective + f-value + focal length combination. You only need to consider the hyperfocal distance if you plan to have something in the foreground that you want to have in acceptably sharp focus. Otherwise you can just focus on infinity. Use no more than 10-15 seconds of exposure time because otherwise the starts will not look like dots. Use ISO 1600 as a starting point. Experiment.

If you can find an area without too much artificial light in the vicinity, it should be possible to get good starry sky shots. I'm pretty sure its just as impossible where you live as it is here. Amateur astronomers in Tampere have an observatory about 20 km to the south of the city.
