I went to buy a snow pusher this morning. I had little time and was wondering what to shoot until a couple of crows showed up at the main entrance of our local Tokmanni. All pictures shot in Aperture Priority mode.

Scanning the ground for something to eat. I guess anything goes including stuff like chewing gum spat out.

Change the color of your feathers for the season.?

Good question. I don't actually know but I don't think so. Black and grey are their normal colors.

Here in Venezuela they are black, always, for that reason I thought that because of the type of climate at this time the color of the feathers changes. I have read that some animals do.

The one Markku photographed is a Hooded Crow (Corvus corone cornix), it's actually one of many bird species commonly called Crows. I am not familiar with the birds of the Corvidae family that live in Venezuela. I took a quick look and didn't find a black one.

I guess one of the black species living in North America, like the American Crow (Corvus brachyrhynchos), Tamaulipas crow (Corvus imparatus) that lives in the gulf of Mexico coast, or one of the four Caribbean crow species; Cuban crow (Corvus nasicus), Jamaican crow (Corvus jamaicensis), white necked crow (Corvus leucognaphalus) and the palm crow (Corvus palmarum), might have migrated and settled in your area.

Again, I'm not entirely sure.

In Finland we have two bird species of the same family, Rook (Corvus frugilegus) that is black, and Common Raven (Corvus corax) that is also pitch black.

The one you photographed is just one of many in the crow species, called the Hooded crow (Corvus corone cornix). In Finland we have Mustavaris, Rook (Corvus frugilegus) and Korppi, Common raven (Corvus corax) of the Corvidae that are entirely black.

Good to know. I've never been all the much into animals and biology but at least I got it right that it was a crow.

I can’t take photos of birds with my mobile phone unless they stay still for me!
These crows have very strange colours!

That is very difficult because all you can do is digitally zoom a.k.a crop which destroys image quality.

Oh! I mean we have really dark black crows here! Yours don’t look like normal crows for us!

Auto corrections always changed my words behind my back!!

Cheers.
