A trip to Horsey Gap to see the seal pups.
Horsey Gap is found in the North East of Norfolk, a county in the UK. Every winter, Grey Seals come to the beach to give birth and look after their seal pups. Some info on Horsey itself can be found here
Today it was a very cold a windy one. We were dressed up to the nines in many layers of thermals as it was hovering around 5 degrees c. It's only a 10 minute walk from the car park to the first viewing area and then another 20 or so more minutes to the second one which was longer and had a lot more seals on it. The count of seals from 3rd January is
Adult seals - 294
Pups on beach and in dunes - 451
Total pups this season - 2062
A lot of them are now old enough to hit the ocean but there were plenty left about to get some great images. Hope you like them. All were taken on the Canon 60D with the 100-400L IS lens at 800 ISO (it was pretty overcast and handholding at 400mm was tricky)
Thanks for looking
Mark
great shots...
Lots of seals here, East Coast of the US... I love getting out to get shots of them, when they haul out. but, yes, this is that time of yea,r when, COOOLDD does not begin to describe it. And the wind, too!
Always fun to shoot seals! Unbelievable how many seals are living there!

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah they are so adorable ... rolls of adorableness i wanna hug the puppers so much hahaha :D
Wonderful shots, Mark !
I love to come to the UK for my Winter's so I am definitely putting this on the 'must do ' list. So amazing.
Do you know how long into the New Year they are there? When do they move off to new grounds or is this their permanent home?
I believe they stick around through January and start to move off into Feb. I think some adults stick around but the pups all move on as I understand it
You also have Blakeney which is just a bit further west for even more seals. They do boat trips to those ones too.
I’ve been meaning to go But haven’t made it so far; it’s only a few miles up the coast from us. We went last spring so managed to miss the pups.
You should go for sure, well worth the trip. Lovely walk even if there arent any seals.
Hello @markangeltrueman, thank you for sharing this creative work! We just stopped by to say that you've been upvoted by the @creativecrypto magazine. The Creative Crypto is all about art on the blockchain and learning from creatives like you. Looking forward to crossing paths again soon. Steem on!
So many seal pictures, at first the thumbnail caught my attention, thought it was a whale lying on the beach, but then I read the text, and had a more closer look, and... no whale... but many seals! We have the seals here in Holland too, they are really fun to watch, usually they camp on the sandbanks in the sea, away from the people. You made beautiful pictures, and cool that you have been counting them all! Upvoted (not so valuable yet but we try!)!
