Oil meadow - 📸 - #landscapephotography
In the XVIII century it was used for holidays and festivals , where during the reign of Nicholas the first every year on July 1 celebrated the birthday of Empress Alexandra Feodorovna. On this meadow always gathered a large number of people , there was a parade of cavalry , arranged fireworks and all who came were served free treats. The name "Oil meadow" has survived to the present time, and the tradition to organize a folk festival existed before the revolution of 1917.

Why was it called oil meadow @madlenfox? Do you know? Was it the oil from cannons or something similar?
This meadow got its name from the Russian holiday - Maslenitsa. In the old days, it was very widely and everywhere. Folk festivals were held in large areas. And this meadow was no exception. This name has come to our days. The trees that surround it have an age of 150 years or more. Beautiful place. Thank you for your interest in this, @gillianpearce. It's possible I misspelled his name. But it was difficult for me to convey the adjective form of the word :(
