RE: Fieldwork, geology photos from Antarctica #1
Been following you. Amazed at your travels! Hope you can help with a rock ID. Any suggestions?

Hello! Thanks for your interest and great photos! To me it looks like you have some forms of copper ores (but tough to say 100% from the photos).
Did you find these in a copper producing region?
A great place to compare your photos is here:

For me looks like Dioptase at the top and perhaps Malachite in the bottom two of your photos. Enjoy and thanks for your interest. What do you think?
Thanks for the link! I'll check it out! Rosasite and Brochantite have been suggested as well as calcite on conichalcite from Ojuela mine, Mapimi,Mexico, matrix-limonite. Uraninite was another but the mineral the green is formed on is not the same as the pics I've seen of Uraninite.
No worries. Hope it helps some. Perhaps some of your prior recommendations are right but Cu is likely part of the mix...
CU?
Sorry, geeking out too much this week.
Copper (Cu). Cheers!
Hey np! Geeking out is cool!!
Agreed! Looking forward to your next post, I resteemed but cannot participate in your competition, but awesome photos! :)
Tyvm!!!!
PS. to confirm @luanne, these samples are 100% from Ojuela mine, Mapimi in Mexico?
That place is famous! Someone should write up a post on that, historical, interesting and world class...
Thanks!
I don't know if my sample is from there. That's just what someone was suggesting my rock was based on their knowledge. I dunno anything about that mine/location.
I just googled it (Ojuela), it looks awesome! Would love to visit there sometime and take some photos!
Now I'm gonna have to Google it! Lol
