Zagreb Zoological Garden

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." ― Mahatma Gandhi

While outside the snow is gently falling, beside the warm radiator, I'm searching for some pictures on my computer. How can I never find what I'm looking for, and I always run into what I need? So now I accidentally came across the images of the Zagreb Zoological Garden that I made last summer. Otherwise, I'm not a supporter of closing animals into cages, but when they have closed them, I like to see at least they enjoy some comfort.

The Zagreb Zoo is one of the 3 zoological gardens in Croatia. It is located on a surface of 7 hectares, and is located in the southern part of the Maksimir Park. There are 275 species of animals and 2 225 individuals from almost all continents.

The idea of establishing a zoological garden in Zagreb was promoted already in 1905 by Dr. Ivo Malin, prof. Dr. August Langhoffer and Dr. Ervin Rössler. Zagreb Zoological Garden was founded by Mijo pl. Filipović June 27, 1925, and is the oldest zoo in Southeast Europe. At the opening day there were only 3 foxes and 2 owls.
