The Amateur Mycologist has heard the call!

You've definitely got some Parasol mushrooms on your hands, and quite robust ones at that. More information is needed for an ID.

  1. Whereabouts are you and these mushrooms in the world?
  2. Second we would need more pictures. Ideally:
  • a picture from underneath the mushroom
  • a close up of the gills where they meet the stem
  1. Then cut one mushroom in half along its length, down the stem and take a photo of the halves so we can see the cross section
  2. Keep an eye on the color of the flesh and see if it changes color a few minutes after you damaged it.
  3. Meanwhile take another mushroom cap and take a spore print. Then take a picture of the print.

It's a science experiment!

I've posted this on the still very new and fairly empty Mycology discord channel.

I really dropped the ball on that one. I took those pics like a week ago after lots of rain and now they are gone 😞 I should have grabbed one!! I was afraid they were poisonous so I didn't touch it

No worries! You need never be afraid of just touching a wild mushroom. Unless you are extraordinarily sensitive, in an allergic way, even the most poisonous mushrooms require ingestion to negatively affect you.

As long as you don't eat them, you'll be just fine, no matter what you find!

If you find others and want help id'ing them, head over to the discord channel and drop some photos and we will do our best! https://discord.gg/JJgEW2y
