The Old Dog Recounts: I Found a Watery Path and Re-Lived Old Memories
Can a path exist on the water? In reality only for a moment, but seconds in time captured in a photo can last indefinitely. These pictures embody the essence of some of my boyhood adventures and superimposes them onto my son.
The boat cuts a path through the water and skiing has turned into tubing. Lots of fun and no learning curve!
I had often recounted to my son stories of my summers spent at a boyhood friend's remote cottage in Georgian Bay Ontario. A cottage built piece by piece with his father's own hands! A place so isolated that it could only be accessed by boat. A place where I learned to ski, to jump off of cliffs, to face rattle snakes, to explore and to fish. A place whose positive vibes were burned into my heart and my mind!
But I'm an Old Dog and it was another era and as a consequence I didn't have even one photo of those magical moments.
I Wondered if That Time, Those moments Could Ever be Recaptured!
° Could I ever re-live some of those moments with my son?
° Had I exaggerated?
° Was that place really so special?
° Could I bridge a gap that spanned not only 40 years but also a continent?
I Re-Connected With an Old Friend!
I contacted my old buddy and to my delight he invited us to that remote place and my wish came true. We re-created many of the same adventures and my son lived, at least in part, some of my stories.
I hadn't exaggerated, that place really was so special and this time I had the proof!
We used to swim across the bay and jump off of this cliff.................... and we did so again!
Decades had past but the old cottage built by his father was still there............. Magical!
Can You Re-Connect With Someone From Your Past?
Since that occasion, now 5 years ago, I've met up with my long lost boyhood friend almost yearly. Our bond seems as strong as it was when we were kids. He's even visited me here in Switzerland and he and my son get along famously. If you can, try and re-connect with someone from your past. It might lead you on a path to memories both new and old!
I hope that you enjoyed this memorable, watery pathway!
Until next time,
@kus-knee (The Old Dog)

Hi @kus-knee
When we were kids, we were much more free than today's kids. We played in the streets, close to our house was a small mountain, with an old quarry, in which we played and climbed, we rode with our bicycles where we wanted to be, we even took our bicycles and small tents, to go camping for a week, living of bread and tinned food for the week. We really had good lives as kids. Sometimes we got into trouble, but never anything serious.

Thank you very much @kus-knee
Well please let the new kids know how it feels , it's not their fault , so far rarely does anyone try their hardest for the sake of his flock , I feel like families are drifting further and further apart , now peoples principles are getting changed and their goals therefore , so we have tv and computers , I for one miss the silence and the nature all around me as a kid, I still have it , but most people tend to forget.
Nice to see you still have kept that piece of yourself I suppose from your posts at least, many cool nature trips , love the birds hadn't seen them before , the grasshopper is very scary with those bright colors, that's no young one either :D , and termites are even more :D , wouldnt want to sleep in one of their homes , giving you a follow :)
Thanks for your story....it was similar for me!
And you jumped from the cliff!! Brave to revisit that. I tremble at the thought of revisiting some of my youth exploits!!
Actually my son did but I did swim over to it!
Well that's mostly there!! Big congrats!
@kus-knee I love the last pic!
The place looks so serene and those chairs are so pretty :)
Is that you and lellabird on the tube having some water adventure?
Thanks for coming. It's just my son on the tube but I did have a shot at it too!

Awesome man! Looks like a lot of fun!
Ya loads of fun!
Thank you for sharing, I've had so little o those magical moments, when school started my life stopped in one place and I've rarely had the opportunity to go somewhere else, makes me cherish all those moments , makes them special , but the other extreme is even better having so many moments , you end up forgetting them.
Ok sorry for the extreme view, it's great to hear that you are living the dream so to speak , hope you have many more memories to keep and thank you for the reminder to return to our roots from time to time :)

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts!
Looks like a lot of fun! I also reconnected with a childhood friend just recently who I hadn't seen for over ten years. We had so much fun... and although we both changed a bit... it was still the same as ten years ago!
You brought up a good point. When we love and care for someone it often stays with us even if we haven't seen each other in a long time! Thanks for sharing!

Only accessed by boat,.... we could all use a place like that for a few days. Time to remove yourself from all the noise. My family loves tubing, haven't been able to do it for a while but thank you for reminding me of those memories.
Thanks a lot for having a look!
The Old Dog is Throwing You a Bone Nice comment! Where did you do your tubing?

We 'tubed' in North Idaho on Lake Pend Oreille. Gorgeous. Amazing memories. My aunt still lives there. Thank you again for bringing back the memories
This is such a great little story and memory. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I still to this day, consider my best friend to be a childhood friend that I made when I was 6 years old and in the 1st grade of public school.
Her father came to get his Veterinarian degree in Ontario from Belize in Central America. They moved back to Belize 6 years later, so we were 12. When I was 16, I flew by myself to Belize to visit her. Talk about an adventure! That was the last time I have seen her or her family in Belize, but we all still keep in touch on-line now.
Professionally, she became a High Commissioner of the Belize Embassy and now she runs the Embassy in Cuba for her country. So crazy where life takes us all. :)
Giving you a follow since I'm not into your dieting and I like your site, good luck on Steemit!
Thanks @j3dy! I am following you too, now!

That's a beautiful lake and cottage! I have two boys who are quite young right now. I hope I get to do those fun things with them.
I'm sure that you will! Enjoy them, being a dad is a huge blessing!
It sure is!
