Moving On To Rincon
I went back to the beach Saturday to continue playing with intentional camera movement and long exposure to create photographic art. My attempts the week before at Hueneme Beach Park inspired me to try the same thing at more well known Ventura County surf spots done in an abstract way.
Last week, I was trying to create photos that looked like "color field" paintings. This week, I wanted to capture recognizable locations in the hopes there might a local market for canvas prints of images of surf spots.
I never surfed at Rincon, so I wasn't certain what landmarks I should include. There are the hills of La Conchita, the Oil Pier, and the Channel Islands to pick from. This first image is of the Channel Islands in the distance:
Here's a little more subtle hint of the islands. Note how bright the sun was. I ended up using an ND filter and, no matter how well I cleaned it, I still got spots on my images. I also struggled to see what I was even getting, with the sun reflecting off the viewing screen of my camera:
The beach that had looked like a tan strip last weekend at Hueneme now had rocks on it at Rincon. I'm not sure blurred images of rocks look so good:
In this view, looking towards La Conchita, you can see the blur of surfers sitting in the line-up. Again, not something that I'm sure I want in the pictures. I'm hoping someone finds these photos appealing, it would certainly encourage me. But, I'm open to constructive criticism as well. Should I just play with the bands of color, or do you think the rocks, surfers, etc add something to the pictures?
What about people walking on the beach as phantoms in the image? Does it just look like camera shake, blur or lack of focus, or is there some art there?

I am not !DERANGED but I do give some away...
I'm not deranged, but I'll glady accept them.

Oooohhh, I like.... Definitely some zen or minimalism here...
They don't really bother me, but if I had to choose I prefer without the people or surfers, more zen and minimalist then! ;)
Thanks for stopping by and taking a look. I think I’m going to try to keep people out in the future b
