Pretty cute... for a larva
Larva from the Birch sawfly
This larva is a Cimbex femoratus, a birch sawfly. The big larva is about 50 mm long and feeds on silver birch leaves.
They are widespread throughout Europe och Siberia. I found this one in Sweden.
The birch sawfly doesn´t make a big impression but, like everything else, they fulfill their purpose in nature. If nothing else, the larvae are pretty cute, don't you think?
Camera: Nikon D80, nikkor 18-55 mm
