Picture Stories #290 - Visiting The Jurong Bird Park

in #photography5 years ago (edited)

My visit to Singapore last year was a very eventful trip jam-packed with lots and lots of sightseeing. It was my first visit to the island city-state and left me quite impressed, and I’d not mind going there again a couple of more times. As a tourist spot, Singapore offers quite a lot of things to see and to do. And as a tourist, I tend to fill my itinerary with so many things that I’m totally exhausted by the time I hit the bed, only to be raring to go the next day (yup I’m in the #thebeast mode as a tourist).

On one of the days, we decided to visit the Jurong Bird Park. There happen to be four main parks in Singapore, the bird park being one of them. The public transport is quite convenient, one can easily reach any destination on their own using a combination of the train and bus services available.

We arrived early in the morning, and since the tickets had already been booked online, we just proceeded through the entrance for having what was truly a great time. The park is very well-maintained and they have a handy map too which allows you to easily navigate the park (not that you will get lost given that there are 'n' number of signs to always direct you in the right direction).

We encountered tons of new bird species, some which we'd heard of but never seen live before, some we'd never even knew existed. It was a thrilling experience to see them up close and personal, in an almost naturalized environment where they seemed cared for and protected.

We saw lots of cute little Penguins at the Penguin Coast.

And then there were adorable Lorikeets with their colorful foliage.

There were not just avian beauties to behold in the park, the floral collection to was quite fascinating and there were certainly a lot of interesting plants to look at.

Overall, we had a thoroughly fulfilling day at the park, and the fact that it is so huge and houses such a diverse collection of birds makes it worth spending the entire day there with your family/friends. Although you can cover the park by foot, it's good that we had access to the trams that allowed us to cover more distance and visit the must-see attractions first. We did quite a number of rounds of the trams to see some attractions multiple times.
