Sri Lanka Photographed - The Fishing Series

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

If you read my introduction, you’d know that Sri Lanka is my birthplace. This is the first time going back to Sri Lanka to celebrate Christmas with family after 12 years.

The last time was in 2004, during the Tsunami tragedy that hit the island on December 26th boxing day. I thank God for keeping my family safe during that time, and for making our family boat trip out on the ocean a day before it happened!

It has been so awesome to be back and have a giant family reunion after so many years. We spent the last few days of our time in Sri Lanka away in a villa that we had all to ourselves for 5 days undisturbed. It was great quality time spent with family. We never left the place once, for anything!

We had a pool out back and just beyond that was the beach. A few of my cousins including myself and a couple uncles, walked the beach and came across this cool sight.

So I Grabbed My Camera.

There’s something about being on a beach during a vacation and coming across an experience like this. Sure we’ve seen it on tv, but in person it was really cool.

It’s fishing. And it’s fishing In Sri Lanka.

You gotta pull your weight - You start from the water and keep pulling till you reach the man coiling up the rope at the end. You then walk back to where you started and pull again. Everyone gets a turn to leap frog!

We also decided to help them out with some extra manpower. Why not!
( In the first picture above you can spot someone that does not belong! Look for a camera and camera strap!)

After reeling in the net. It was amazing to see how much fish was caught! But that being said, it was mostly Sprats! Not much of the larger fish. That would be done in a different way, off boats. I apologize for not having a picture of it!

Fishy Business. Once it was all in, it was time to sell to some locals and small market owners.

And yes, because we did help them out, they gave us free fish!… well technically we worked for it..but you know.

It was just awesome to witness fishing being done in this fashion.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post. Hope you enjoyed this experience!

Captured - January 2, 2018.
This whole series was shot on a Canon 5D Mark IV with a 16-35mm 2.8L III
