A Good Mule Deer Buck

Colorado is well known for producing some of North America's top trophy mulie bucks, and this guy has some real promise.

If harvested next year, my guess is that he will easily qualify for the Boone & Crockett Record Book. As many of you are aware, that is no small feat in anyone's book.

It is what mule deer hunter's dreams are made of...

Fair winds, my friend.

*I took this photograph late this afternoon, and I was actually surprised that he has yet to shed his antlers. No doubt that will happen very soon. Maybe, just maybe, I can be the lucky soul to find them and pick them.

Alas, one can only hope...

*A Comment From Facebook:

"I am good enough at field judging to say that he will gross around 200 to 215 as a typical and he will loose 12 to 19 inches in deductions. Good enough to make it into Boone and Crockett maybe or maybe not "all time book". He probably doesn't have enough to book as a non-typical. Definitely a buck of a life time. This one rough scored 197 3/8 and has 5 points on the left side and 7 points on the left side. He has 38 inches of mass. Your buck has more mass and more deductions too".

And, here's a recent original pencil rendition of this buck by my friend Charles Manus. Quite a nice study, considering that Mr. Manus scribbled it out in about 5 minutes. Thank You Charlie!

Beautiful deer! My husband would die of happiness if he could get a shot at that buck!

I know exactly how he feels...It's what keeps us out there - watching...

Thats a beautiful rack! that would be quite the prize to find on a hike.

It sure is. I've got my eye out for those drops, but you know how that goes...

That was a great picture to get - he sure has a nice set of antlers on him :)

Well you are a lucky man and a skilled photographer to get that picture! The deer doesn't look too terribly old so he may get even bigger yet. I hope you do find the sheds. Just make sure you are in season... ;)

I agree...

Close, but not him. Probably his son though...

Definitely a buck of a lifetime! It's amazing how well people can field judge these bucks. I suppose you have him tied up until hunting season?

How did you know? Actually, I have been studying the maps and possibilities for next year, but I suspect that he does not ever cross into public land. But then again, he just might.

He has dissappeared of late, which makes me think that he has shed his antlers. Where, of course, is the question.

And thank you for your gift, and support. It is much appreciated.

You're very welcome! Great drawing! :) Sorry to keep harping on this but are you interested in being an ambassador and receiving it's accompanying delegation?

Thanks. I have been on the go and I must have missed your messages. Yes, I would be honored to be an ambassador.

Awesome! I mentioned it in a post and a comment or two but that's just fine. I know we are all busy and doing Steemit around our busy schedules. Glad I asked again. I will get that delegation over to you hopefully some time today.

Looking forward to it...Best!

My dad killed one of the biggest mule deer bucks I have ever seen in Colorado around the time I was born. I believe it was out of Grand Junction. He had it mounted and it hung on the wall for around 10 years until we moved to Oregon. Unfortunately, it didn't make the move with us and I have never seen it since.

Grand Junction area was home to some real giants. Sorry to hear that it disappeared along the way. I've also heard many stories of how people just used to leave the antlers in the field, particularly of elk. They didn't want to carry them - and you could not eat them either...as they would say. Interesting that fistfights can now break out over shed hunting territories. How things change...
