Hilarious Rastafarians Posing for Me at a Street Market. Have You Visited Bogota, Colombia?

Have you visited... Bogota, Colombia? The busy traffic-filled capital city of Colombia closes down the main streets on weekends for walkers, cyclists, joggers, skaters, and anyone else not in a motorized vehicle. This coincides with the always busy and always bustling San Alejo Flea Market.

Just like in English, their Mercado de Pulgas is a literal translation. I wonder where this crazy saying of a 'flea market' came from to cross such cultural and language boundaries. Neverless, it did and here it is.

Strolling around the market, most people are quite homogeneous there and you don't see a great variety of people as you might see in other parts of the world. That's why these Rastafarians selling vegan food stood out so much in their distinctive rainbow colored garments. Rastafarianism is a religion originating in Jamaica, but there were a surprising number of Rastafarians in the capital city, and several Jamaican food restaurants.

On weekends, there are always a couple selling their vegan lentil and quinoa burgers. As I was trying to get the picture, these two characters saw me and invited me to take a picture, shooing everyone out of the way to let me get a good shot and posing hilariously for the camera. If you ever get a chance to go to Bogota, it's a surprisingly wonderful and modern place that's worth a visit.
