In an early Chinese treatise on landscape art we read: "The world is big, the eye is small, but the eye can easily comprise the world.
Landscape art therefore also expresses a fundamental insight that has taken on the form of a view. The eye never reaches beyond the mind's eye, never beyond consciousness: seeing is comprehending."
