@krystalfinnigan and I hiked our way along the coastal edge of the Bouddhi National Park this morning. Only an hour north of Sydney this hidden gem is a must visit if you're in the area.

There is a coastal walking track that traces along the waters edge and cuts into some sections of the bush. This gives you a great display of Australia's environmental diversity and beauty. Following along the track brings you to a hidden alcove called Maitland Bay where you could spend the day enjoying the water.

The paths are not paved and can be treacherous when wet and muddy, which they most certainly were today.

Even on a rainy day like today we still had a whole lot of fun.

The Australian coast line has been eroded by the sea and wind for millions of years. This has left beautiful shapes and colours carved into the rocky walking path. The majority of this path is made of yellowy sand stone which contrasts so well with the blue of the ocean.

I love the photo above because it shows just how close the vegetation comes to the ocean. Some plants even growing down the cliff face.

The plants and animals that live in this area are largely unimpaired by humans. We found some beautiful native plants. A Lepidozamia peroffskyana shows off its red seeds below. These seeds were a staple diet for coastal living indigenous Australians after thorough preparation. They are poisonous raw!

Even though this is a protected area there are still those who leave their rubbish behind. It's important that we all do what we can to maintain the health of these beautiful environments so they can be enjoyed for years to come.
