Mushrooms and Moss ~ Color Challenge - Tuesday Orange
This moss and fungi forest was discovered along a wooded hiking trail next to an isolated lake in Midwestern USA. It was growing on the decomposing remains of a tree stump, and was far enough away from the trail so as to avoid being trampled. The magnificent orange glow of these tiny little mushrooms was hard to miss, and the lighting was just right to capture the vivid colors.
I am not certain of the species, but my best guess is that it is a Waxy Cap mushroom (Hygrocybe cantharellus). Assuming this is correct, the color indicates that these would be somewhat elderly mushrooms. Thanks for checking out my post!

Very pretty photos - and I can see at a glance why you picked the soecies you did. It seems to be in the right genus, and possibly the right species as well. The problem is for a detailed answer we would need many more details beyond just these photos. Minimally we would need to see the gills and assess them.
Even then though hygrocybes can be fairly difficult to identify down to a species with definitive accuracy.

Thanks for your input! Unfortunately I didn't get any good pictures of the gills so this one will remain somewhat of a mystery. I will check the same spot next year and see if I they return!

I never saw that beautiful mushroom in our place, whether natural habitat is originally from your nature?
I had never seen anything like this before either! I found and photographed these in a natural habitat near where I live...I'll have to check that area again next season.
