Toy Review: Play Arts Kai Assassin's Creed Connor

In my review of Play Arts Kai Edward Kenway, I mentioned that Play Arts Kai/Square Enix made two Assassin's Creed action figures. I give to you the second one: Connor from Assassin's Creed III!!! Since I have so many pictures of this figure, I'll also be splitting this into a three-part blog. Connor, a Mohawk Native American, was actually named Ratonhnhaké:ton (radon-hage-don). Apparently, his original name would have been difficult to transliterate into Japanese for the box cover!

Here I have placed both boxes for comparison. Play Arts Kai does make great box designs!

A common feature of Play Arts Kai boxes, there is a front cover that can be opened. In lieu of the Caribbean map from the Edward Kenway box, the Animus 3.0's interface is printed on the plastic cover. Like the Edward Kenway box, the cover flap shows a little history on the Assassin-Templar War.

The set includes the Connor action figure, a bow, three arrows, a pair of flintlocks, the Assassin tomahawk, Captain Kidd's sawtooth cutlass, four hidden blade pieces (retracted left blade, extended left blade, pivoted left blade, extended right blade), two pairs of interchangeable hands, folded hood piece, and Connor's hair piece. It also comes with the Play Arts Kai display stand, which is still sealed in its packaging.

The figure is a mixture of hard and soft plastic and some rubber pieces. The robes are mostly made of rubber.

The tomahawk is my most favorite piece in the set! The Assassin insignia shape of the blade is awesome!

Connor's Hidden Blade is referred to as the Pivot Blade, notably because the blade can also be rotated and used like a knife. This is why out of four hidden blade pieces, three are made for the left arm.

Play Arts Kai chose Captain Kidd's sawtooth cutlass as the figure's sword. In the game, the sword can be obtained by finishing missions related to Captain William Kidd. The serrated blade makes it look intimidating.

In the game, Connor wears his bow like a sling bag. Unfortunately, the bow's string is made of plastic so I just hanged it over his quiver.

15.jpg

Connor's face looks too far from his in-game appearance, due to Play Arts Kai's Final Fantasy-style face sculpts. His skin complexion is too brown he almost looks like he's drenched in coffee.

16.jpg

Connor's hairpiece can be removed and replaced with his signature hood.

17.jpg

Connor's hood looks better than the Edward Kenway one, since Connor's eyes are overshadowed by the hood's eagle head-shaped fringes: the defining feature of most Assassins.

Stay tuned for Part II!!!
