En esta oportunidad regreso con un ejercicio de macro fotografía y otra muestra del efecto bokeh, (este efecto lo explique en una publicación anterior si quieren verla aquí les dejo el Link) pero esta vez las fotografías las tome con el lente que uso habitualmente, un Pentax 18-55.

In this opportunity I return with an exercise of macro photography, and another sample of the bokeh effect, (this effect explains it in a previous publication, if you want to see it here I leave the Link). But this time the photographs take them, with the lens that I usually use, a Pentax 18-55.

Para mi ejercicio decidí fotografiar una pequeña, pero muy hermosa orquídea que tengo en mi mini jardín, se trata de una Encyclia cordigera variedad semi-alba. Esta es una orquídea que se caracteriza por poseer un tamaño que oscila entre medio y pequeño, sus hojas elípticas emergen en grupos de 2 o 3 de pseudobulbos que se asemejan a una pera o un ovoide. En el caso de su inflorescencia consiste en una vara florar de apenas 20cm, de donde brotan de 3 a 15 flores que pueden como máximo alcanzar los 7 cm, y cuya fragancia se asemeja al aroma que despiden las manzanas verdes.

For my exercise I decided to photograph a small, but very beautiful orchid that I have in my garden, it is an Encyclia cordigera, semi-alba variety. This is an orchid that is characterized, by having a size that oscillates between medium and small, its elliptical leaves emerge in groups of 2 or 3 of pseudobulbs that resemble a pear or an ovoid. In the case of its inflorescence, it consists of a flower rod of only 20cm, from which 3 to 15 flowers sprout, which can reach a maximum of 7 cm, and whose fragrance resembles the aroma of green apples.

Cymbidium cordigerum, es el nombre científico con el cual fue bautizada en 1815 esta especie, oriunda del norte de Suramérica, por el naturalista Carl Sigismund Kunth, quien catalogo y describió la especie, basándose en una planta recolectada en mi país Venezuela, durante la legendaria expedición de Humboltd y Bonplant por las Américas, entre los años (1799-1804), específicamente en un lugar ubicado entre las ciudades de Santa Bárbara y Puerto Cabello.

Cymbidium cordigerum, is the scientific name with which this species was named in 1815, originally from northern South America, by the naturalist Carl Sigismund Kunth, who cataloged and described the species, based on a plant collected in my country Venezuela, during the legendary expedition of Humboltd and Bonplant for the Americas, between the years (1799-1804), specifically in a place located between the cities of Santa Bárbara and Puerto Cabello.

La Encyclia cordigera, es considerada una de las Encyclia de flores más grandes y bonitas que existen, y quizá una de las orquídeas más llamativas que se desarrollan bien, en un clima verdaderamente cálido y húmedo, esto ha originado, que en la actualidad, debido a las recolecciones ilegales en algunos lugares, empieza a ser una especie poco frecuente, sin embargo, aún es posible encontrar esta especie generalmente epifita, distribuida de manera silvestre en países como Guatemala, Perú, México, Colombia, Venezuela, Surinam, Guyana, Brasil, Belice, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panamá y Nicaragua.

The Encyclia cordigera, is considered one of the Encyclia of larger and more beautiful flowers that exist, and perhaps one of the most striking orchids that develop well, in a truly hot and humid climate, this has originated, that at present, due to illegal collections in some places, it begins to be a rare species, however, it is still possible to find this species generally epiphyte, distributed wild in countries such as Guatemala, Peru, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Suriname, Guyana, Brazil , Belize, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panama and Nicaragua.

Finalmente, en cuanto a su cultivo, se puede realizar sobre una placa de corcho o madera similar con un poco de musgo, ya que como la mayoría de las Encyclias las raíces encerradas en un compost húmedo sufren mucho. Además, este método de cultivo, favorece el drenaje del exceso de riego y la aireación de las raíces, lo que siempre es importante en estas plantas. Por lo demás, es una orquídea con pocos requisitos: le gusta una temperatura intermedia, incluso aguanta temperaturas cálidas, humedad de baja a media, buena luz, riegos moderados, fertilizaciones ligeras y buena ventilación.

Finally, regarding its cultivation, it can be done on a cork or similar wood with a bit of moss, since like most Encyclias the roots enclosed in a wet compost suffer a lot. In addition, this method of cultivation favors the drainage of excess irrigation and aeration of the roots, which is always important in these plants. For the rest, it is an orchid with few requirements: it likes an intermediate temperature, even withstood warm temperatures, humidity from low to medium, good light, moderate irrigations, light fertilizations and good ventilation.
