The Buddha Tooth Relic Temple redux

I posted a few days ago about the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple in Singapore, but I only shared the front door! So here are some additional shots taking in more of the temple to give you a better picture (ha ha picture... get it?).

I love the front facade .. especially the typically Chinese architecture of the roofs. I recently saw a documentary about the forbidden city on TV and they explained how those wooden structure between the pillars and roof are made and what they are for. The aren't glued or nailed, they are put together like puzzle pieces and are designed to move. The pillars... traditionally do not go into the ground .. they stay on the surface so that they can move.. its an ancient form of earthquake defence .. and it was so effective in tests it showed it could survive earthquakes up to lvl 9!

The outside of the temple alone is amazing. Unfortunately it was already closed for the evening and we never made it back to check out the inside .. but I see that as just another excuse to visit Singapore again!

I suspect the temple isn't decorated like this year round. It must be part of the Chinese new year celebrations. All of Chinatown is decorated like this during the Chinese new year.. definitely a great time to visit.

The statues by the door are pretty awesome.. look at the dude's arm.. he even has veins showing.

So that's the outside of the temple. One day I will return to take some shots from the interior.
