Art at La Conciergerie in Paris

This is an awesome 'perspective' installation where when viewed from the correct angle it looks like a single piece with a big red stripe going through the middle. As it happens, they are all individual wooden structures built around each column in the room. Its really cool and its the reason we went to La Conciergerie.

It wasn't until after we got there that we realised the full historical significance of this place. It was initially the Palace within Paris, located in the centre of the city. In the 14th century Charles V moved his residence to the Louvre and this place became the official administrative offices for the King. In 1792 after the fall of the monarchy and during the french revolution the place became a court called the 'revolutionary tribunal' where more than 2700 people who were deemed enemies of the revolution were sentenced to death.

Most famously this was the prison that held Marie Antoinette. They did not let her eat cake (ha ha).... I don't know if that's actually true, wealthy prisoners got plenty of luxuries .. until they were executed of course.

Thanks @pixresteemer :)

I'm not sure how I've never seen this when I've been in Paris, but this has totally slipped through my eyeballs. What an illusion this creates.

Leave it to you to always come up with something different and always quite amazing. That Marie Antoinette did not get any cake would be a surprise to me! LOL

Haha! Well it probably wasn't there when you were .. it was a temporary art installation there at the time :) I doubt its still there.
Marie Antoinette probably did get cake, and wine, and steak and a private cell (en suite of course).. the rich got preferential treatment in prison .. even then..

Ha! I feel better now! And, some things never change, do they?

Some things never do, history does tend to repeat itself when we don't learn from our mistakes. Sometimes we learn and history still repeats..

Yeah, we are human. :) I didn't realize that meant unable to learn.
