Photo of the day: my city from the heights of Copey hill, Margarita-venezuela
The national park "cerro copey", is a national park located east of Margarita Island, in the highest mountainous region of Nueva Esparta State in Venezuela. It was created in 1974 with the purpose of protecting an outstanding physiographic feature with an ecosystem that includes several plant formations, high levels of endemism and the island's only permanent water sources. It is surrounded by desert plains and that is why in spite of its scarce 960 masl elevation it has green forests and montane grasslands that are nourished by the moisture provided by the trade winds.2 In the lower areas of the Park forests predominate dry and semideciduous and is surrounded by villages and plantations, some of which have recently invaded the park grounds.
