I absolutely love this story! Biased view as I was there when the photos were taken, but I don’t think that is why I love it. You capture perfectly the mercurial mystery of a very special and beautiful place and it’s interplay with a family.
I’m so glad you like it, @ducksaplenty (my sister, for any readers who may be curious). Your response really makes me happy. I think back on that trip, and all my attempts to capture that rock in various dramatic lighting, and I think not just of the wonderful time on the beach with our kids, but also of the beautiful and dramatic views of the ocean, punctuated by that landmark, and how it was almost another personality present with us during that time. I knew I couldn’t effectively capture that in photo-journalism, and so the fictionalized version came to life. 😁
