Sad News about our Snakes!
I recently brought you a photography post about the mating snakes of Narcisse, Manitoba which you can see here, which are world famous for their giant breeding balls in the spring time. This week, tragedy struck! Someone gruesomely attacked the snakes, killing many, and injuring others.
You can read more about it at this site.
The annual event is a provincial treasure, a national treasure, and a global resource. It is artistically beautiful, and scientifically fruitful. I cannot fathom the ignorance that must reside in the mind of a person who is willing to do this.
This site is somewhat remote, and takes some time to get to from the nearest major city, which is Winnipeg.
Ignorance is the right word. I am so sorry.
hopefully someone finds out, who it is..
I doubt anyone will get caught. I don't think it's very high on the priority list for crime. The garter snake is not an endangered species. Animal cruelty maybe. Provincial Law
Surprising to me, animal cruelty doesn't seem to be a federal crime in Canada, except in some specific circumstances.
maybe cause specific crimes aren't done too often, else they'd add another to the list.. but animal cruelty should cover all.
