My Bamboo Ocean - MoganShan

in #photography7 years ago

Moganshan is known for its vast bamboo forests, in Chinese this landscape is called Bamboo Ocean (竹海).I find the comparison to the ocean to be true because this is a place i often go when my souls needs peace and quiet! The vantage point from Moganshan feels like you are watching an ever moving ocean. The green bamboo covered hills, like waves, never seem to stop rolling.

If it wasn't for the fact that the hills were covered with bamboo forest you could think this picture was taken in Switzerland. As a matter of fact there are lots of things in Moganshan that makes you feel like you are in a European City- the reason is that it was built by westerners more than a hundred years ago!

It was built as a vacation get away, but it was actually not the beauty of this place that was the main reason that foreigners would travel all the way from Shanghai here, which at the time was a trip that would take several days! The main reason why foreigners came here was to escape the extreme heat in the summer ! As the mountain is around 600 meters tall it offers nice cooling winds and a much more comfortable temperature.
Okay enough talking I will let my photos continue telling most of the story:
You have these nice villas neatly hidden in the thick bamboo forest.

Some of these buildings are more than a hundred years old, but as they were built with stone they stand strong still today.

You have trees almost everywhere like umbrellas offering shelter from the strong sun !

Many Chinese artist have come here through the years to seek inspiration from the beautiful surroundings. I understand why.

Today most houses are occupied by locals, and some are rented out to tourists. DSC_0524.jpg
I'll end the post with another beautiful scenery . Hope you like the post and have a great day !

Great scenery shots. You got my upvote. Here are the type of scenes we get in Colorado.

This looks really awesome ! I haven't been to US yet ! I think many people who haven't been to America might not associate It with beautiful scenery at first hand, but rather with the big cool cities. However I like to watch discover channel and I found there are some absolutely breath taking places in America, and Colorado is definitely one of these places !

Colorado has 56 mountain peaks over 14,000 feet high. My son has climbed around 48 of them so far. I need to get some of his pictures posted that he took from the top.

Here is a view looking east from around 9950 feet elevation near where we have some property in the mountains. Antero reservoir is seen in the distance.

Wow that is awesome ! I would love to buy myself a piece of land on a mountain one day and build a cabin ! All you would need gor decoration is a shelf with good books and yes of course a coffee machine as well !

This photo was taken from the location of CORA (Campground of the Rockies Association) You can most likely find a lot or two for sale for less the $10,000 that you can put a trailer or camper on. Electricity is in area along with restroom/shower facilities and a club house down below with an enclosed heated pool.

Wow that is not too steep of a price ! :)

You should definitely post some photos that your son took !

Breathtaking scenery. I have a fondness for mountains (live on top of one lol). This looks like a magnificent place to visit. :)

It really is a very nice place to visit, especially because I live in a big city - Hangzhou, and it can get quite stressful here ! You shouldn't visit this place during holidays though because then it's packed ! A weekend retreat is good ! Where do you live ? How is it living on a mountain ? :)

Yeah, I'd probably prefer to visit when it's quieter lol. I live in the Blue Mountains of northwestern North Carolina in a very rural community. I love living here, though winter seems more like the northern states and seems to drag on and on... :D

Wow that sounds amazing, the scenery over there is breath taking ! Do you have any posts with pictures from there ?

No, I'm not even an amateur photographer lol, but I'll make a point to get some pics on here eventually. :D It is lovely here, indeed.

Thank you ! It's a must visit if you go to China !

Oh wow! I would love to visit this area sometime, it is beautiful! Thanks for sharing!!!

Glad you liked it - I strongly recommend going here !

looks like a really nice place to live.

I think it would be really nice to live here, atleast for some parts of the year. There is actually a British Guy who has a house there and also runs some hotels. He visits atleast once a year !

Wow, this place looks awesome.
How far of a drive is it from where you are living now?

Darryl @dadview

Just about one hour so it's definitely convenient for a weekend retreat ! The prices have gotten quite steep though ! I remember going there first time about 10 years ago and there was a hotel for around 100 rmb a night. Now you won't find any hotel room below 600 Rmb per night which is around 100 Usd

I would pay $100 for that view. It is often hard to find a decent hotel for less than that in any destination you actually want to visit here in Canada. Unless a motel is an option. ..

I agree it's worth it ! Have you ever had plans to travel to China or south east Asia ?

We have hosted a lot of international students and many of them have been from China. I would love to travel there one day but will admit that it does seem a bit scary. Almost all of them seem to love it here in Canada and want to stay.

China is a very safe place and people are very helpful for sure! I think your son would love to climb the great wall :)

wow, the old rustic buildings add so much character to this area. Love the rolling hills!

Yea it definitely has a rustic look. It's almost surreal walking in the bamboo forest in the middle of China and the architecture is European- very unique and beautiful:)
