Rosemarkie beach and Cairds Cave

Last weekend @antonchanning and I had a really fun day trip to Rosemarkie. It is a lovely village located on the Black Isle, just a short bus ride from Inverness. It is famous for its sandy beaches and dolphin sightings and also for picturesque Fairy Glen. We visited Rosemarkie on many occasions but there are still some walks we didn't get to do. This time we decided to visit the Cairds Cave.

To get there you have to come at a low tide. Otherwise, access to the caves is cut off by the water. Beach is a little rocky and has a lovely red tinted sand. Walking along it is really fun.

You might want to watch your step in case of some dead jellyfishes! The ones we saw were the size of a dinner plate!

The views ahead are really beautiful, especially on a nice day, like this.

Eventually, the shore gets even rockier and the cliffs get higher and closer. You are very near the cave now!

You just have to look to the side and notice a very narrow path leading towards the cliff. Some brambles and nettles might brush against your legs so watch out! The cave is a wee bit hidden.

It is a very shallow cave, more like a rock shelter, really. That said, some signs of inhabitance were discovered here.

Considering the nearby Fairy Glen, I would not be surprised if this cave was inhabited by some trolls!

We definitely discovered the evidence of it being inhabited by birds! Small, mossy nest has been built in the rock face above the cave.

After seeing this cute little cave, we carried on our route and discover another cave, but that's a story for another blog.

So much beauty! The caves are a wonderful find!

Wow looks like a great spot have you been further into the caves?

This particular cave has no more depth to it, but the second cave we visited does. It's only a few meters deep, but still fun to explore. I just posted a blog Rosemarkie Beach and Second Cave, that has pictures of it.

Great always good fun exploring caves. I’ll take a look now :)
