DEER EATING THE GRAPES AND BLUE BERRIES

I Caught a few picks of a visitor making a snack out of the grapes and blueberries.

Sneaking up on a deer is not easy.

I didn't have a great angle from the front porch, and my camera equipment is not the greatest (no telephoto).  So I decided to slip around behind the house and see if I could get a few good shots.  I didn't get any real good shots of him eating the grapes, and just a couple of him eating blue berries.  I did actually get pretty close before he decided to leave.

They ate the peaches too.

I didn't have a lot of peaches this year because of a late snow.  This is actually the pear tree, which is doing exceptionally well at the moment.

Last week I noticed that most of what I did have were now gone.  I found a couple peach pits on the ground under the trees.  A couple days ago I caught a doe and probably it's fawn eating the peaches off the trees.  So any peaches the deer could reach are gone.  I didn't catch any pictures of that, but I also found out that Squirrels like peach pits because they were busy cleaning up after the deer were done eating.

Thank you my friend.

I have read that tying a white Plastic grocery bag by the fruit you want to protect, and allowing the movement of the bag in the wind, will run off the deer and save the fruit. Let me know how it works. :D

I think I will try that, I've seen pie-pans tied to cherry trees to keep the birds away. Which seemed to work pretty well.

I got some river cherries years ago from Jackson and Perkins, that put fruit on under the leaves, and the birds don't see them much. They are also a bush so I never need a ladder. The leaves are not smooth, but the cherries are Good! :)

Good luck on the wildlife battle! The commercial orchards use propane cannons, that sound like some one is shooting, to scare the birds off.

Old CD's work. We discovered they don't work for the clever birds but I'm sure the wild animals will be scared off

Yes the only thing that works with birds is netting the fruit. They are a real pain. Best of luck! :)

Sadly yes. A huge netted enclosure

I think they sell bird nets to throw over trees and bushes. Sorry they are so rotten, but I guess they get hungry too.

What a special experience. At least you got the photos, no matter the quality. We also get to unwittingly share our harvest with the wild animals. Due to the drought here in South Africa's Cape we are "sharing" the majority of our rather limited fruit and veggies. Everyone is hungry.

I enjoy watching them, but I just wish they would eat the grass, instead of the fruit. Plus then I wouldn't have to mow as much, lol
We've actually had almost too much rain this year, but other parts of the country have had too much.
There seems to be a lot of hungry people in Africa, my daughter was in Uganda last month on a mission trip. Some of her stories are pretty bad.

I'm with you on that! Fruit is probably to a deer what chocolate is to us! There are a lot of hungry people in Africa. I'm sure it was quite an eye opener for your daughter. I went on a mission trip to Zimbabwe about 20 years ago. Despite being South Africa it was such a shocker. Sadly South Africa has deteriorated so drastically since then that it is probably getting to be that bad a situation

This was her second trip there, and it is definitely an eye opening for a 16-year-old from the US. I noticed a difference in her after each of the trips.

May it help shape her into a compassionate and strong woman with a heart for people, but mostly for the Most High

Amen, I'm thankful to have been blessed with my children and hope they continue to bless others.

Thanks, for running the promotions.

howdy there @coinsandchains! great photos for an amateur! the deer are beautiful but how do you keep them from eating your fruit? hey ya'll have grapes and blueberries out there? I'd be scarfing those down and making pies!

Well, I think the dogs were keeping them at bay. Now with one dog gone, and the other staying in the basement most of the time (getting old, has arthritis), the wildlife seems to be coming into the yard a lot more.
We don't grow a lot, just enough to say we have some, and maybe make a couple jars of jelly.

oh ok, well then you can get great shots for posts!
