STAND BY ME AT THE NIFTIE BRIDGE AND THE TRAIN TRACKS TO NOWHERE
Several weekends ago, my wife and I met up with some friends at a cool pizzeria in Lambertville NJ, called Liberty Hall Pizza.
We arrived in Lambertville early enough that afternoon to take a walk to the nearby Delaware and Raritan Canal where we followed the tow-path that parallels the canal.
The images below detail an interesting defunct late-20th-century railroad bridge that crosses the canal.
Apparently someone, or some group of people, decided to spruce this aging railroad bridge up a bit.
And what the heck, I decided to climb up an embankment and try to walk across this bridge on the rickety train tracks that it still pledged to support.
There were numerous boards put in place to mitigate the many holes that time had created. And, I must say, that my wife didn't appear to be too thrilled about the idea.
For some reason, while atop the bridge and peering down through the holes in the tracks to the water below, the train scene from the movie "Stand By Me" popped into my head.
... even though nothing so exciting was likely to happen in this case, because this train line had long ago been decommissioned and the tracks now go to nowhere.
And while no where near as dramatic, it still gave me just a little bit of an uneasy feeling as I cautiously walked atop this railroad bridge.
Merry Christmas, @cognoscere

I'm with your wife on this journey....yikes!! A little to unsteady and fragile for my liking...but at the same time I can see the pull towards "danger". I love your photos and all the graffiti adds flavour. Nice job!
