Steemit got me off my butt and learning to make videos and post on Youtube

in #photography7 years ago

And lots of other things I have been wanting to do for years and putting off. Before I get to my point, here is the 1.27 minute version of my New York City 4th of July Fireworks video shot out my apartment window:

Yes, it's the NYC 4th of July Fireworks 5 days late!
(Weird thing is around the minute mark it sounds like there's a man's voice talking next to me, but the nearest people were over 10 storeys down and a block away.)

Things Steemit has already inspired me to do in less than 3 weeks:

  1. Film my first video
  2. Post a video on Youtube for the first time after having a Youtube account for 5 years!
  3. Download all my photos from my phone and edit them
  4. Buy my first Bitcoin
  5. Starting writing again on a daily basis

And no, I didn't just do it now because "you can get paid on Steemit" and I have a mercenary outlook. Sure I'd love to become a bigwig whale some day dripping cash every time I posted and upvoted, but I definitely am much more motivated by the idea of a creative outlet with a built in audience. For now the idea I'll ever be more than a minnow is pretty abstract. But the fact that people are sharing videos with each other and getting interest was enough to make me shoot my first ever video (in life, I mean. I never had a video camera growing up and I still don't have one. For some reason, although I've had my Galaxy S4 for ages, I never tested out the video function.) I feel like Sleeping Beauty or at least Sleeping Photographer and someone has given me the kiss of life.

Seeing the fireworks I shot actually turn out okay has given me a sudden desire for a better camera, maybe a GoPro, so I can take it around New York City and film interesting scenes. Next thing will be to get a more powerful computer and invest in some video editing software.

In any case, if you are new to Steemit like me, I hope it also inspires you to get going on any creative projects you may have been putting off! I feel like I am about to take a big leap forward in my creative life. Thanks for reading.

Hey @clemdane, you're going to kill it in Steemit because your heart to create great stuff!

Well thank you so very much!

That is awesome to hear. I'm glad Steemit has motivated you to go out and do stuff. That is really cool. My suggestion to you, don't invest in editing software, use imovie or something free. You don't need much. Your phone can do almost all the work for you when you are getting started. Just find ways to pump out some great content. This is cool because you have a nice firework video and then the story behind it. That is how you connect with people and I think you are doing a great job for being here a short time. Keep up the awesome work.

Thank you so much! I'll check out imovie. I would though like a wearable camera so I can film while I'm just walking around.

That's awesome to hear. Love seeing original content supporting the site.

Nice. Keep making original youtube videos and you can earn from adsense, along with Steemit.

Thank you! Yes, I've had ideas for Youtube channels for a while now, but was intimidated by the filming aspect. Now I feel ready to take on the challenge. Thanks again.
