week seven (43-49) + project pause

in #photography6 years ago

hello again! thanks for checking out week seven of my 100 days photo challenge!

if you caught my last post, you may have seen my news: i've recently taken a second job, and am putting this project on hold for the time being. i'm really sad to do this, but there simply isn't time in the day to produce at the quality i need to in order to feel good about this project. so, this will be my last project update for the time being-- be sure to savor it!

here are my photos from week seven:

i fuckin love my cat, and my cat fuckin loves boxes. isn't she adorable?!?!?!

the wrigley taproom and eatery in downtown corbin, ky is easily my favorite restaurant in all of eastern kentucky. not only does it have great farm-to-table food, a sick selection of over 24 local beers, and some of the best and most creative cocktails i've ever tried, but it's also a critical social space in the community. the wrigley really brings together a unique crowd, which has so many secondary and tertiary benefits. to put it simply, it's just fuckin magic.

silas house reads from his most recent novel at the wrigley. when i snapped my outdoor pic of the wrigley the day before, i wasn't expecting to end up using another wrigley pic for this day, but when i got to the event, i knew i had to document it. silas is a dope appalachian author who just released a dope book, in addition to writing a very powerful piece in time magazine about corbin and eastern kentucky and the south, specifically our relationship to racial justice. he read that piece in corbin, which has a very sordid and racist history (like most of the world tbh). how could i not snap a pic?! history in the making!

i've wanted to fuck with content-aware scaling for several years now, but am only now getting around to it. also, since our asshole of a governor announced that he's running for reelection, i decided to put together a video to roast him a bit. good times!

another attempt at long exposure fuckery. i really like how the motion blur coming out of the right side of the mirror has this trippy straight vertical line to it from the reflection of the photo on the back wall in the mirror. that strange visual artifact made this one by far my favorite from this series

the second apple maps vehicle i've seen in as many weeks. last one was near manchester; this one was near berea. i guess eky's getting an apple maps update in the near future!

another experiment with content aware scaling. good times!

BONUS! 50

51.JPG
(this was the first photo from week eight, but since i didn't complete week eight before pausing this project, i'm posting the remains in this week as bonus content) roof cat! roof cat lives on the roof. roof cat likes to meow really really loudly. roof cat likes to be pet while on the roof. roof cat is really fuckin weird and unique and endearing.

what a perfect photo to end this part of the project with! taken outside whitesburg, ky. internet access is still a significant issue in town, so the fact that the only hotel around is using internet as a selling point was really symbolic to me.

so, that's the end of my 100 days photo project-- for now! what would you like to see in part 2 once i resume this project? let me know in the comments below!

Sort:

Woah, where is 51? Parkway?

Also, side question, what camera you working with these days?

YES! great call!!! apparently the whitesburg motel closed this summer, so the parkway may be the only place to stay other than AirBnBs in town!

As for camera, my workhorse is the Panasonic GH5-- it's SO FUCKING GOOD for video!!! (which is my main use). IMO the 5D IV and new mirrorless cameras from Canon and Nikon STILL can't touch its capabilities, and they've had almost 2 yrs to catch up...!

I upvoted your post.
