week six (36-42)

in #photography6 years ago

hi friends! long time no see! in week five i mentioned that things had been busy, and that hasn't stopped being true! i suddenly find myself working two jobs for the first time in about six years? shew buddy, i forgot what this was like! that said, my ability to put time into this project has definitely changed, and i'm afraid i'm going to have to postpone it for the time being. but, before i do, i have several weeks worth of photos to share! for starters, here's week six:

one of the big things i was interested in playing with this week was long-exposure photography. if black and white photos are going to look "old," is there a way that i can push that perception to its breaking point? does a time-warped "old" photo look different? here's one experiment, taken from the passenger seat of a moving vehicle (safety first!)

let there be light! i was contracted for my first headshot session in a while, and used my brother as a model as i was prepping the studio and lighting. here he is plugging in the hero light behind him

(spoiler alert-- this photo wasn't taken on day 38; nothing was. this is an extra from another day that i'm using as a substitute) i was heartbroken to find that i was out of cereal, and my brother pointed out that my empty bowl was a pretty tragic visual metaphor for my predicament T__T

another substitute, this time of a sick garden spider i saw. i had just talked about the ridiculous, fist-sized banana spiders i remember from georgia around the same time that i spotted this badass. not quite as big, but definitely colorful and eye-catching!

another substitute, this time from a live show in atlanta. they shut all the lights off in the stadium-- it was pitch black in there. 100% of the light you see is from cellphones. i haven't been to a show like that in a minute, and was stunned to see such a display. collective action is beautiful!

i previously posted a photo of construction at the hospital where i see a counselor, which i thought was an interesting visual metaphor that i identified with. here's what that same spot looks like several weeks later. makes u think!

no really, this one's ACTUALLY #42, unlike the past few, which have been substitutes. this is, from what i can tell, a hand-painted billboard just outside of corbin, ky. there are a few ancient billboards around eky, but none as ancient as this one. i really like it!

how do u like my photos? let me know in the comments below!

37 freaked me out. I was about to be like "WHAT THE FUCK?! WHEN DID YOU GROW A BEARD?!"

Picturing you with a huge beard is not right. I wouldn't know how to take it haha.
