SPRINGTIME ADVENTURES , episode 4 - Sheltering thorns

in #photography5 years ago

These days I try to spend most of the time outdoors, searching for wild asparagus and photographing with a small compact camera the explosion of colors and life in nature that surrounds me.

Yesterday my attention was caught by a large thorny plant, very different from the vegetation that surrounds her.
P1930194.JPG
About 2 - 3 meters in diameter, with long sprawling leaves, it was by far the biggest thing on the rocky terrain on the way to the sea.
When looking up close, the folded structure of this giant leaves, formed surreal landscapes, green canyons, and tunnels for small invertebrates to wander around.

like this spider-like creature related to scorpions.

Or this caterpillar, busy eating the soft, rotting parts of the plant.
Deeper you look, near the center of the plant, the droplets of moisture, remainings from the early morning dew, were still in good shape, while the rest of the landscape was dried.

It was late morning, almost noon, but down there the snails were still active.P1930201.JPG
Most of them were small...like this one...

... or this one...
P1930320.JPG
...but some of them were very, very small ... like this one...

Even deeper was another hungry caterpillar, this one covered with droplets.

Back on the sunny surface, I saw more colorful creatures.
P1930097.JPG
like this bug
P1930104.JPG
or this wasp
...or small spiders waiting for a catch
P1930082.JPG
or just...i don't know...sleeping? Doing some kind of spider meditation?
P1930103.JPG
These very small flies were especially active, always running around this thorny microcosmos
P1930191.JPG
exploring the territory ...
P1930110.JPG
and signaling with wings
P1930130.JPG
There was also one very big snail, closed in the shell. Waiting for the humid night.
P1930085.JPG
It was a great trip to a hidden world. Not spectacular in color, but very interesting and kind of mysterious.
P1930196.JPG
and I brought a lot of cool moments back home with me.
P1930202.JPG
... and that's all for today...hope you find it interesting...have a good day...or night...wherever you are...
