PORTRAITS OF ISTRA - Episode 3 - MORNINGS IN THE PORT OF LIZNJAN
A few kilometers from my hometown Medulin, there is a smaller town ... or maybe, village ... I'm not sure ... Liznjan ... and a little less than a kilometer from its center, on the coast, is a large bay with a cool fishing port ... surrounded by beaches and muddy lagoons ...
( Enlargeable )
... I'm visiting this place almost on a daily basis because is relatively near to my home, and the most important reason, because I like its relaxed and patchy atmosphere ... hm ... I don't know if ''patchy '' is the right word for what I wanna say ... I mean to say ( As you will clearly see on the photographs ) that this place looks like a patchwork of various old rusted or dissolving things stitched together ...
... with a few new ones ...
... added to the mix ...
... and like the port itself ...
... this post will essentially be a patchwork of details, atmospheres, and impressions ...
... a rambling walkthrough with many sudden jumps and turns ...
... but ...
... to make things even more chaotic ...
... I will start this post ...
... in a surprisingly orderly fashion :D ... from the beginning ... the early dawn ...
... if we enter these series of early morning shots ... using pictures as portals ...
... we will appear in the port ... at the end of July ...
( Enlargeable )
... it's a relatively fresh start ...
... of another hot and suffocating mid-summer day ...
... and on the horizon...
... we can see a fishing boat ... followed by seagulls ...
/ Enlargeable )
... in the gentle watercolors of the early morning ... and on that aromatic salty morning air ... there is a possibility that you'll experience some sudden confusing moments of trippy vision ... don't worry ... this is normal ... and perfectly safe ...
... at one point the fishing vehicle will change its route ... and be directed towards you ...
( Enlargeable )
... always followed by the obligatory seagulls ... ( And here comes another little trippy moment ) ...
( Enlargeable )
... it's a relatively big boat ... one that's used for hunting the sardines ...
( Enlargeable )
... accompanied by two small boats with big, strong lamps to attract the fish and help spread the nets surrounding the fishes ... once upon a time, I worked on this kind of boat for a few seasons ... and was a great job with the sense of adventure, always something interesting to see and experience on the sea ... the dolphins often followed us as we returned with the catch ...
... and so ...
... the boat is docking now ...
( Enlargeable )
... and you can buy sardines ...
...
... or other bigger species that are often caught amongst the sardines ... absolutely fresh with a heavenly perfume of the morning at sea ...
... much better and much cheaper fish than in any other shopping place in the area ...
... and now ...
... we'll take a big leap ...
... that will take us ...
... in the middle of autumn ...
... I made the following series of photographs a few days ago ...
... also in the morning ...
... the sky ...
... was overcast ...
... and mostly gray ...
... and the tide ...
... was pretty high ...
... emphasized by the warm and humid southern wind that feels a bit like a local Mediterranean version of the monsoon ...
... a man was going to his boat ... and in these high tide conditions ... became some sort of a local Jesus figure walking on water ...
( Enlargeable )
... near this picturesque little house ...
... on the big old fig tree ...
... the blackbird was feeding on the last fig on that tree ... and maybe on all of the Istra peninsula :D ...
... there were no other fruits on that tree ... nor leaves ... I swear ...
... and I didn't notice any figs anywhere around these days ...
... so this is a pretty peculiar little situation ... very open to metaphors & interpretations ... with great symbolic potential ...
... not far from there ... a seagull is resting on the rock ... and if we zoom out the picture ...
... we'll see that this rock is actually a monument ...
... the inscription says that the partisan naval unit formed by the local fishermen and their vehicles was active in this port from 1943 till 1945 ...
... and now ...
... let's take a look ...
... at these small buildings near the docks ...
... they were built ...
... to shelter ...
( Enlargeable )
... bigger fishing equipment ...
( Enlargeable )
... and other things ... that are needed ...
( Enlargeable )
... for mantaining ... or repairing ... the boats ...
( Enlargeable )
... some of them are still in use ... espetially by the older generations ...
... and some ...
... are abandoned ...
... or half abandoned ...
... and now ...
... what follows ...
... it's a series of shots ...
( Enlargeable )
... of the same port ...
... that I took ...
... one sunny morning ...
... in the early springtime ...
... a small coletction ...
... of details ...
( Enlargeable )
... that cought my attention ...
... like this boat & car ... that look a bit like they are talking to each other ...
... these people, reflected in the puddle of water that remained after the high tide, which are surely talking ...
... and these buoys ... that are seamingly doing the same ...
( Enlargeable )
... near the old port ... divided by the long & large main dock ...
... is a lagoon ...
... that serves as a beach ...
... one winter morning there ...
... I met a friend who was also photographing these things ...
... and now ...
... with this lovelly little violet boat ... that looks like an oversized version of the Barbie doll's sailing veichle ... it's time to end this reportage ... as always in these posts on Steemit, all the GIFs and photographs, are my work ... THE END

I love these photo stories of yours :) Very elaborate and authentic. Btw I didn´t know there is a town called Medulin in Croatia. Sounds too similar to Medellin hehe :)
