Travel with me: Sailing Greece, Day #1 - Scammed

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

I have received a phone call from my friend who is also a captain saying that he got a great deal on a boat which we have to sail from to Lefkada to Lavrion Marina in Greece.

The price was very attractive since it is the end of the season and they need to bring back that boat for service which means a little bit driving to be done that allows to explore Greece from ground and sea.

Since it was a no brainer we have assembled a gang in a few days and were about to depart. We had a flight to Greece with a connection flight in Kiev, Ukraine. And since women are especially pretty there we did not miss our chance to take a few shots :) Blinded by her beauty the guys did not even realize it was a cardboard cut :)

I am a heat lover so i was pleasantly greeted with a wave of hot Air once we landed :) I hate cold...

Of course we have got instantly scammed by RentalCars.com as we have made a preorder with pickup and drop off locations and paid for everything in advance. But they decided to charge us extra 300 Eur for leaving can in another loation bla bla bla even though they knew it in advance order... Fuck them, be careful with that company.

We drove to Athens, parked our car in one of the narrow streets, met a guy from AirB&B you know how it all goes.

What's the first thing you have to see when in Athens? Of course it is Acropolis. We have paid 20 EUR each for the ticket to see some ruins with scaffolding. I was not impressed to be honest, having in mind the ticket price but the view from the hill was nice. And.. Visit Acropolis - Check.

That pretty much wraps up the first day of our trip. A few more beers and a kebab. Few more beers in the balcony of a rented apartment and good rest before the main journey begins.

but, I want to travel too!

Considering your follower count you will be able to finance your travel blog with steemit mate :)

I would love too mate!

It looks magical! We have a similar version of the pathernon of Greece here in my country.

Where are you from? :)

I'm from the Philippines. I actually posted a video of it on my last article. But of course, it's not as gorgeous as the Pathernon in Athens. :-D

Let me check it out :)

Thank you for the report of RentalCars.com... I always rent only from Hertz or Avis here in EU these are the best companies out there.

We have even tried to contact European Consumer Rights in Brussels, as we were totally scammed. With little luck though, got some generic answer. We could have declined their proposal ofc, but there was no other car rental in that AirPort :) I believe they know their game pretty well :)

I like this - feel as if I'm on hol with you :-) I'd be heading for Eleusis to check out the Mysteries....

Hi mate, nice to hear :) What's Eleusis? :)

Eleusis (Elefsis) is a site near Athens. Around 2 thousand yrs ago every year, thousands of people visited it (usually around September) to be initiated into "The Mysteries". Basically, it sounds like it was a massive Glastonbury Festival scenario - attended by all sorts of people from Plato and Hadrian to slaves.

You would arrive, walk and dance and kill a pig to eat later (Hog Roast stall). The partying went on for about a week. At the climax, everyone would go through a ceremony and drink some kind of psychoactive drink (kykeon) and have a mystical experience that left them with no fear of death.

I've made it sound like a riot (which it possibly was) but it was a tremendously sacred event for many. The Mysteries interested and concerned Plato all his life.

But everything had to be kept secret - the penalty for telling anyone what went on was death so we can only really guess what happened.

Some of the psychonauts believe it was all in the kykeon but there's so much more to it than that. If you go, please post about it for me - thanks :)

Thank you for the very informative explanation. If i only knew this before, as we are already back from this trip. It seems that you will need to go there yourself and tell us how it went :)

Nice! You're in Athens? Enjoy! I hope I can fund travelling with steemit one day :) i could spend months exploring Greece alone!
Looking forward to day #2 :) happy travels mate.

Nah, sadly it is a post travel blog. When we did i did not know about steemit then. So just practicing to write about travel if some day i will do it live :) And also thought that somebody would love some insights if planning the trip themselves :)

ah fair enough. Its good to practice.Though I think its harder to travel blog with photos after a trip when you never had travel blogging in mind. That's kinda my problem at the moment with the photos from a lot of my trips.

Strangely i find them to fit my story, maybe that is many years of shooting and shooting too much lol So i have a huge selection. I actually had to choose from more than 1000 final images lol Where do you find the difficulty? Or images are awesome. Maybe you are just too hard on yourself? :)

Maybe I am, I think I might just not be taking enough photos to fit a story because I often find there is no continuity in the photos, but that might just be in my head.. I'm not used to writing.
All my old facebook and instagram posts hardly had any text, I didn't really start writing stories until I came here a month ago. Still kinda getting the hang of it!

And i think you have a talent :)

Thanks! you are too kind :) Your comments have been motivating me to try harder! so thank you for that :)

You are welcome Fifty. I am glad to hear that :) And you are welcome anytime :)
