Akhvenkoski (Ahvenski) waterfall

Karelia is called the country of lakes. If you are looking at a map of this place, then see for yourself. But it is also a country of rivers and forests. There are no high mountains and ridges. But a lot of rocky soil, large stones and relatively small rocks. When visiting Ruskeala, we drove past one interesting place. Usually it is called simply waterfalls. This is the Tohmajoki River. And I call the waterfalls in different ways.Akhvenkoski. Ruskeal'skiye or Tokhminskiye. But this does not change the essence of this beautiful and mysterious place.

This stretch is visible directly from the road. But it is worth stopping and approaching him to enjoy this wild beauty. The water in the river is brown due to the high iron content. But she is absolutely clean. It was raining a little that day, it was damp in the coniferous forest, but that did not stop us.

To walk around the waterfalls and admire nature you do not have to break your legs along the roots and stony soil of the forest. No need to fall into raw moss and wet shoes. It’s enough to have an umbrella. But that if it rains. Around the entire waterfall, tracks from boards with railings are laid. And across the river itself and over the waterfall there are hinged bridges. The wooden path either deepens into the forest or leads to water again.

On the way there are various interesting corners and strange forest creatures. Many try to appease them by throwing coins. Why do people think everyone needs money? Nature does not need money. Nature needs our love and respect. It’s enough not to break or litter anything. Including coins.

We will return to this wonderful trail. I want to end this part of the story by showing the waterfall itself. More precisely, one of its parts. I shot water at different shutter speeds of the camera. I want you to feel the pressure and movement of the water. Waterfalls, of course, are small, but after all, water really falls down.

This is a suspension bridge over a calm part of the river in front of a waterfall. The river itself is also beautiful. Spruce forest frames the channel. And along the coast you can just walk and relax your body and soul.
