Thanks I do think it depends on what your shooting though, buildings look great edited but I find landscape doesn't sometimes just needs a little brightening up is all

That's exactly what I mean. For me brightening up is also editing (just a bit) :)
I often have a problem with editing people in a picture. The background needs editing, but the person does not always look better after the editing. So somehow I try to avoid editing pictures with people. Or do just some slight ajustments.
Yeah with people it can almost seem very fake, sometimes I over edit and they just look heavy or something almost pastel like
