Edited or Unedited

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

So here are three of my favourite photographs I've taken. I edited some of my pictures but often wonder are they better unedited. Which do you prefer edited or unedited?

The first was taken at Delphi, Co. Galway.

Great photography and editing. I like the edited version in the 2nd and 3rd image more than the unedited ones. But in the first image I'd go with the unedited version.

Yeah same as I was thinking in the second the picture is brightened and more is visible and the third it brings out the detail of the stone really well. I often take a long time switching between my edited and unedited pictures deciding on which is best before posting, sometimes I don't think I make the right decision

I can totally understand why you are comparing the different versions and it's really a good habit to think about, if an edit is really necessary or not. The first image looks absolutely stunning without the edit, so no need to edit it. (The edit is even a bit over the top, imho). But the other edits bring out some details, that are not visible in the raw pictures.

Yeah sometimes I do edit pictures and spend ages doing them and then end up just deleting it and returning back to the original

That's a good habit in my opinion. Trying to optimize the pictures and when you see you aren't able to, let them be, as they are.

The sky in Ireland is something I do love edited as you can see in the pictures it really brings out the cloudyness almost makes it look stormy even though on the day it was just overcast, brings a little drama to the pictures

Yeah, it's beautiful. But sometimes viewers seek for silence and peace in pictures aswell.

I always edit my pictures. Personally I like them better that way. I always shoot in RAW format and there are alway improvements to make. Sometimes a little bit more than other times.
Like all the pictures you posted. The edited a bit more than the original ;)

Thanks I do think it depends on what your shooting though, buildings look great edited but I find landscape doesn't sometimes just needs a little brightening up is all

That's exactly what I mean. For me brightening up is also editing (just a bit) :)
I often have a problem with editing people in a picture. The background needs editing, but the person does not always look better after the editing. So somehow I try to avoid editing pictures with people. Or do just some slight ajustments.

Yeah with people it can almost seem very fake, sometimes I over edit and they just look heavy or something almost pastel like

Super photos! Your editing skills are improving :)

Thanks, there was a person in that picture too I edited out!
