An afternoon in Venice, beyond the tourist itineraries - Discovering Italy with alequandro

Tuesday I had to go to Venice for work, but since the meeting would have lasted a short time, I decided to take my camera with me and explore a peripheral area of ​​Venice, without a precise destination.
The aim was to see new places far away from the main tourist roads.

Martedì sono dovuto andare a Venezia per lavoro, ma dato che l’incontro sarebbe durato poco, ho pensato di portare con me la macchina fotografica ed esplorare una zona periferica di Venezia, senza una meta precisa.
Lo scopo era vedere posti nuovi distanti dalle strade principali turistiche.

I was near the Santa Lucia station, and decided to explore a popular residential area.

Ero vicino alla stazione Santa Lucia, e ho deciso di esplorare una zona residenziale popolare.

It was an unexpected experience, because there was only me along those streets and fields. There were no noises.

É stata un’esperienza inaspettata, perché c’ero solo io lungo quelle calli e campi. Non c’erano rumori.

Sometimes you could hear the sounds of seagulls flying over my head.

Qualche volta si sentivano i versi dei gabbiani che volavano sopra la mia testa.

Without the river of people who are usually seen near the Rialto bridge or at Piazza San Marco, one really has a feeling of peace and can perceive a magical, almost surreal atmosphere. It doesn't seem to be in Venice!!

Senza il fiume di persone che si vedono di solito nei pressi del ponte di Rialto o presso piazza San Marco si ha davvero una sensazione di pace e si riesce a percepire un’atmosfera magica, quasi surreale. Non sembra di essere a Venezia!!

It was 6 pm and the canals were crossed by people who know where to have a drink.

Erano le 6 di sera e i canali erano percorsi da persone che cervano un posto dove fare aperitivo.

At a certain point I decided to go back to the main road and explore another interior area just ahead.

Ad certo punto ho deciso di andare di nuovo sulla trada principale ed esplorare un'altra zona interna poco più avanti.

Taking a photo from the center of the bridge is instinctive, impossible to give it up! :)

During the short stretch I took on the main road I saw many people.

I was on the Rio Terà San Leonardo

Durante il breve tratto che ho fatto sulla strada principale ho visto moltissime persone.

As soon as I could I entered a side street and the exploration started again!

In Venice there are often interesting light cuts.

Appena ho potuto sono entrato in una calle laterale e l'esplorazione è ricominciata!

A Venezia si creano spesso tagli di luce interessanti.

As you can see, as soon as he left the main road, there was no one and even the noises had stopped.

I decided to climb the bridge and see what was beyond ... Venice is a city that arouses mystery and curiosity.

You never know what to expect a few steps ahead.

Ho deciso di salire sul ponte e vedere cosa c'era oltre...Venezia è una città che suscita mistero e curiosità.

Non si sa mai cosa aspettarsi pochi passi più avanti.

As soon as I got off the bridge, I found myself in a dark passageway where two ladies were talking animatedly about something.

Appena sceso dal ponte mi sono trovato in un passaggio scuro dove due signore stavano parlando animatamente di qualcosa.

When I came out of that dark area, I found myself under a porch overlooking a large square (campo is the exact term)

Uscito da quella zona buia mi sono ritrovato sotto un portico che si affacciava su una grande piazza (campo è il termine esatto)

The porch was made of brick and from the round arches passed really suggestive beams of light that made the red color of the brick even warmer.

Il portico era fatto in mattoni e dagli archi a tutto sesto passavano dei fasci di luce davvero suggestivi che rendevano il colore rosso del mattone ancora pià caldo.

When I walked the field (campo) I realized that it was really big.

There were tall trees, as if I had been in a natural park.

ITA

Quando ho percorso il campo mi sono reso conto che era davvero grande.

C'erano alberi alti, come se fossi stato in un parco maturale.

I then continued to walk and after passing a bridge I was attracted by something really special...

Ho poi proseguito a camminare e dopo aver superato un ponte sono stato attirato da una cosa davvero particolare...

Right above a boat moored at the side of the canal there was an opening on a brick wall and you could see a tourist having a serene dinner sitting in the courtyard of a restaurant.

It almost looked like a window floating with the boat :D

Proprio sopra una barca ormeggiata a lato del canale c'era un'apertura su un muro di mattoni e si poteva vedere un turista mentre cenava sereno seduto nella corte di un ristorante.

Sembrava quasi una finestra che galleggiava assieme alla barca :D

After the small break I went ahead with exploration between canals and narrow streets.

Dopo la piccola pausa sono andato avanti con l'esplorazione tra canali e strette calli.

In the silence that characterized those spaces I suddenly heard a tour guide tell a group of people something about that place.

Unfortunately I didn't know the language she spoke...

Nel silenzio che caratterizzava quegli spazi ad un tratto sentii una guida turistica raccontare a un gruppo di persone qualcosa su quel luogo.

Purtroppo non conoscevo la lingua che lei parlava...

There was a wooden bridge and a very particular house was right in front of me.

ITA

C'era un ponte di legno e una casa molto particolare si trovava proprio di fronte a me.

A girl plays the bell of that house and when she sees that I'm taking a picture, she poses:D

Una ragazza suona proprio il campanello di quella casa e quando vede che sto facendo una foto,si è messa in posa :D

I kept walking, taking the street to the left of the house and I found myself in a totally different area than 50 meters before.

Ho continuato a camminare imboccando la calle a sinistra della casa e mi sono trovato in una zona totalmente differente rispetto a 50 metri prima.

Seagulls flew over my head...

ITA

I gabbiani volavano sopra la mia testa...

A few steps and the voices of a group of laughing children became more evident...

Qualche passo e le voci di un gruppo di bambini che ridevano, si faceva più evidente...

A soccer field! To Venice! I knew that I had never seen it before.

It seems surreal to see one in an island like Venice!

Un campo da calcio! A Venezia! Sapevo che c'era non l'avevo mai visto.

Sembra surreale vederne uno in un'isola come Venezia!

I kept walking until I came to a brick wall.

I was a few inches from the lagoon!

Ho continuato a camminare fino ad arrivare ad un muro di mattoni .

Ero a pochi centimetri dalla laguna!

I slipped the lens between the railings and had time to photograph a group of people training with a rowboat.

ITA

Ho infilato l'obiettivo tra l'inferriata e ho fatto in tempo a fotografare un gruppo di persone che si allenavano con una barca a remi.

I never thought I'd see so many things ... but at one point I saw a girl climb up an artificial wall!

ITA

Non avrei mai pensato di vedere così tante cose...ma ad un certo punto ho visto una ragazza arrampicarsi su una parete artificiale!

A little tired of the walk, I then decided to approach the train station...

Un po' stanco della camminata ho poi deciso di avvicinarmi verso la stazione del treno...

It was about 8 pm and a group of kids enjoyed playing soccer in a field all to themselves :)

Erano circa le 8 di sera e un gruppo di ragazzini si divertiva a giocare a calcio in un campo tutto per loro :)

When I walked into the main road I was shocked by how many people there were.

I must say that Venice is a living city!

It's easy to meet people, make new friends!
Everybody walks and meets so many looks, smiles...

Quando mi sono incamminato nella viabilità principale sono rimasto sconvolto da quanta gente c'era.

Devo dire che Venezia è una città viva!

E' facile incontrare persone, fare nuove conoscenze!
Tutti camminano e si incrociano tantissimi sguardi, sorrisi....

I had arrived at the station... a last photo and a last salute to the beautiful Venice...
