ABOUT THE PHOTO

I am usually not a morning person, but on this vacation i was always first up, so if it is of any help it is a morning photo. Taken with Canon 600d and Jupiter 37a lens.
Could you guess the country or exact location of this photo?

RULES & HOW TO PLAY

For Where is it Wednesday we would like you to Guess the location of the photo

  1. The closest guess will win the prize, be as specific as you can!
  2. Only one guess per person, per post.
  3. No editing your guess - you have to commit!
  4. All metadata has been stripped from the pictures, so don’t bother looking for the EXIF!
  5. We are not required to tell you what kind of camera was used, or what time of day the photo was taken at, or whether filters were involved (this adds to the mystery and the challenge!)
  6. For this game you have 2 days to guess (Friday 6PM EST / 11PM UTC)
  7. If only one person gets the correct (or closest) answer they will win full prize pool
  8. If multiple people guess correctly (tie for 1st): 60% to first person / 40% divided between the next 5 people
  9. If no one comes up with the correct location, the prize will go either to the closest guess, or (if no one is even close) will be rolled over into next week’s pot.

NEW TO THE PHOTOGAMES??

Introduction to The Photo Games Post

Sort:

Looking out to the Belgrade Fortress, to the confluence of the Sava river into the Danubeon, in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia.

This guess is too specific to be wrong, I am backing it!

Lol... I did a little hunting for information : )
Although I'm hoping I have the right castle...

if you look there is no mountain behind the Belgrade fortress. it was greece and the mountain in the back is Olymp where Zeus hang out :)

I could never find a view far enough back to know that... but it was fun, great challenge!! : )
Sorry @jpphotography : (

From your previous posts @bil.prag I'm going to guess Serbia! 😁

i didn't want to be that obvious :D

ah ha! so that's a clue for future reference @bil.prag. you don't like to be obvious! 😁

My guess would be Serbia, around Smederevo maybe?

it probably had more sense then belgrade, but still no mountains there. Platamon Greece. thanks for participating.

I'm going to say Tuscany!

Backing this one!

just googled for Tuscany castle, it looks interesting. This was Platamon Greece

never been there, heard that they have nice sea

would be nice to be on that boat :D

it's been there forever though.... you might get bored of the view ;)

when you look on the map it looks like i had to be on the boat. it was from land, down from that boat. as you and @gweiss were in 20 -30 min and did hard work both i think 70-30 would be rightly.

I would be super surprised if you were really on that boat ;) I just lolled that the boat was in the right spot on Google maps... Thanks for the challenge!!

when you posted that, i looked on the map and it really does not look as it could be taken from land, weird perspective.

Is this the "land"?

yap that is it. i was probably a bit to the left from that man there :) with old russian Jupiter 37a lens on a crop sensor (around 216mm).

Great pic!
Kind of hard guess, i tried to analyze a little, the houses look like the place is more on south, warmer, the roofs "say" that there is not much snow in area (or any), probably near sea. Also the background mountains look like something on Mediterranean. The whole castle look was familiar, but the polygonal tower confused me, AFAIK castles that i've seen in most of Balkans do not have that kind of tower, that eased a little my search.
After around hour of googling stuff that analysis suggested i found the exact fortress, i'm not sure if i'd ruin contest if i say the name of it. But then again i spent good time in research so i'll say it: the picture is taken east of Castle Platamon, Greece .
:)

As a photo star we get to back the people we think have the correct answer and I am backing you. Fun to see people get into the games and really play.

Thanks, i like to play brain teasers of all kinds, i see that as a challenge to myself and it's also fun.

What, @sjarvie5? I thought we had something here and now you go with @gweiss? That hurts my feelings :)

I know it was super tough. You are so great at it and he was probably on the ship! You are astounding that you know where I was standing in the Getty! When you pointed it out I remember taking the picture there. Seriously amazing skills!

no, just a little too much time ;) Will create some posts to teach people how to do it.
@gweiss deserves your support! He put in a lot of work to find this spot.

I just saw that you posted before me exact location; didn't see the post and i read them all, this is the second time i didn't see something, still new to steemit i must say. How did you find the location?

How? I went through @bil.prag's other photos to see if he shared one other shot from this location before. And indeed he did. I got the name of the castle from the name of the folder he put it in.

Ah :) thought maybe some advanced technique picture wise, that was my first plan, but on second thought i tried different approach with my semi-good knowledge of Balkans region and local citadels :) .

damn, probably from flicker :)

@caseygrimley will not win in all games this week :D

Can't win them all :D

as @r00sj3 and you were in 20 -30 min and did hard work both i think 70-30 would be rightly.

I did look extensively at the Belgrade Fortress that @jayclar mentioned. I'm still not convinced after looking at street-view. Serbia, definitely, but I'm still not sure on the actual castle.

I think it's the Ram Fortress - still on the Danube, still in Serbia.

maybe most logical if you go for castles on danube in Serbia. closest to the mountains. i have a plan to visit that part of serbia, it is interesting part of danube. still this was Platamon Greece.
