Squirrel!

in #photofeed6 years ago

I used to do a lot more animal and bird photography when I had a crop-sensor camera and a cheap 300mm lens. Now that I have a full-frame 6D and can only afford a 200mm Canon pro lens, I'm much less motivated to take animal pictures because I just have to get so much closer to the object. I've definitely enjoyed taking portraits and most other kinds of pictures significantly more with my 6D, but I do miss how much closer a crop sensor got me to wildlife!

I took this shot on a snowy day at Highbanks Metro Park in Columbus. I was the only person in sight and there were all kinds of little animals scurrying around in the snow!

Alright!!! We need to get this post all the votes you get you that incredible 300mm lens!

This is such a great little photo! Squirrels are such a delight to me and my partner... there aren't any in Australia (Drop Bears ate them all) so when we see one we pretty much lose our minds. I'd really love to get a photo like this.

That sounds like a wonderful plan to me! Someday I'll have one haha :)

Thanks! It's funny that squirrels are so interesting to you because they're so normal for me! What the deuce is a Drop Bear?

I've only ever had a 200mm and I loved that with all my heart, so I can't even imagine the magic of a 300mm.

Ahhhh, it's so weird that so many people know all the cute Aussie animals but not the scary ones... a Drop Bear is like a Koala, but a Koala is sleepy and high off eucalyptus, a Drop Bear, however, is carnivorous and drops from the trees onto it's prey. It's a full on jerk.

If you want to mess around with one, the kit Canon 75-300mm is super cheap and is what I used for a lot of these pictures. You can get one used for less than $100 and it's EF mount so it would work on your 6D!

After a small amount of research, YOU'RE FULL OF LIES!

Ah, dude, I had no idea it'd be so cheap, just ordered one off Amazon for $75... That's crazy!

Hahaha, I'm soooooooo glad you looked it up... I wasn't sure where to go with that if you just accepted it. The moral, you can trust an Aussie with your life, partner, car or drink... but unfortunately you can also trust them to pull your leg at every opportunity.

Yeah the 300mm lenses are so amazing can't wait to get my hands on one. Have a great day if you are reading this.

Thanks Costa Costa!

that was an amazing photo! :) I love that your subject, the squirrel was in motion when you took the photo. Great timing and chance really! Two thumbs up. Cheers :)

Great shoot, sharp and even dynamic, that is stuff i like, do you have the 6d mark I or II?

Thank you! This was actually shot with my old camera which was a Canon Rebel T5. I have a 6D mark I now.

Okay, now i understand. I also like to photograph animals of all kinds, a few days ago I have also posted a small squirrel series, if you want you can have a look at photos of the European squirrel.

how beautiful that squirrel, alvin

Flying squirrel!

Did you ever see the flying squirrels at the Gove cabin? We were there once with the Miller fam and flying squirrels were zipping around in the rafters, it was super cool.

Action shot...
