Crossing the Gobi Desert
I shot this during my time working with the BBC natural history unit in Bristol. For this film, we spent 2 weeks living alongside a Mongolian family deep in the Gobi Desert.
Prior to this occasion, I had never actually seen snow in a desert before. In fact the Gobi gets very cold indeed. In the winter it is not uncommon to experience minus 40 degrees Celsius at night.
Amazing shot! I love the juxtaposition of sand and snow, humans with their clothing and the bactrian camel with their inborn protections.

That must have been such an incredible experience. I didn't see the BBC special, so what was it like? Did you eat the same food as them and such?
Since we had a film crew with us we took our own cook... she bought meat from the family and cooked our meals with it.
That's still cool that you got to see what it was like to live like one of them. It's fascinating to drop into a culture that is vastly different from what you're used to, and you get to learn about how they live... at least I think so. :)

Wow that is cold. I can appreciate just how cold now after two winters in Northern British Columbia.
