PAST
For the make up game for #Photogames we were asked to submit something old. How about ancient? Ancient pyramids in Egypt.

The Great Pyramid of Giza is the tomb for Khufu and is the oldest (constructed 2580-2560 BC) and largest (146.7 meters or 481 feet) of the three pyramids in the Giza pyramid complex. It is one of the Seven wonders of the Ancient world and was the tallest man-made structure in the world for more than 3,800 years. It is estimated that the pyramid is made of 2.3 million limestone blocks. Pharaoh Khufu reigned during the 26th century BC.

The Pyramid of Khafre was constructed in 2570BC out of limestone blocks weighing more than 2 tons each. It is the tomb of pharaoh Khafre. He reigned for 24-26 years most likely from 2650-2480 BC. It is believed that the Great Sphinx was built around 2500BC for the pharaoh Khafra also.

Pyramid of Menkaure
It is the smallest of the pyramids at 61 m or 204 ft tall. It was probably completed in the 26th century BC and is thought to be the tomb of the Egyptian Pharaoh Menkaure. The long vertical gash on the north face is from when in the 12th century the sultan attempted to demolish the pyramids and started with the smallest one. The pyramid of Menkaure also has three satellite pyramids which are believed to be for the Queens of Menkaure.

It was truly a marvel to see the pyramids and the Great Sphinx! I learned about these structures in grade school and marveled at them in our encyclopedia at home. To be in Egypt, walking around the pyramids, taking pictures and riding the camels was definitely one of the highlights of my trip to the Mediterranean.

It really must be a great experience to stand face-t-o-face to the Great Sphinx and the Pyramids!

Great photos! At first I thought the 2nd one looked somewhat bizarre... I'm so used to seeing the Great Pyramids in all the books and movies that it looked as if there were enormous chariots pulled by giant horses in your picture 🙂

Thanks so much @lakesnmountains Speaking of face to face with the Sphinx here is me kissing it. The bus driver suggested and took the picture. So fun.

It looks like the bus driver is very experienced in taking this picture. He nailed it to millimeters.

Aww, thank you for that, that's such a cool picture!

I need to put this shot on my bucket list...

How truly amazing!!
