Wow, I love these scenic drives. I did drive across the US, from Detroit to LA, but my favorite road to drive on is M22 in Michigan.
Granted, I live here so I am biased, but it is quite beautiful in northern Michigan. Lake Michigan, Glen Lake, Torch Lake, the Sleeping Bear sand dunes and national lakeshore...to much to list.
If I ever make it to your neck of the woods I will surly try this scenic drive, and if you ever visit Michigan, please drive along M22.

Yay, I get free tips! Thanks! I certainly will come 'your way' someday and I will definitely drive at least this route. My takeaway from all my travels, always, is: listen to the locals. If they still recommend a route themselves it must be worth it :-)
I hope you will make it to Scotland someday and drive this gorgeous little one yourself too!
