Loading the construct // A Post Story

The boat to ferry him across would be here soon. He was early, but he didn't mind. The waves lapping gently on the shoreline numbed his mind. It had been weeks since he had a moment to himself.

Loading himself into the construct alone, was a rare opportunity these days. Most of the time he joined others in the construct for work, or to play games with the kids. Rarely there was just a moment for himself. Of course he could make the boat arrive instantly...but allowing for time made the construct more realistic.

Inside the construct, his mind would make any environment he needed. He could be anything, meet anyone or be anywhere. But his favorite, was spending time out on the water.

To explain - after the internet, came the construct. It didn't take long for the internet to be completely ruined by advertising. The construct changed all that. Accessing information became a matter of thinking about it. If you wanted to learn something about nature, think about the expert you wanted to talk to and it was possible. Of course it was also used for all the nefarious things the internet was used for - but mostly the change was good.

For him, the construct meant escape. As the boat pulled up to the rocks, he grabbed his fishing rod he climbed aboard. The boat captain gave him a knowing nod and they pulled away. He took a seat. Suddenly a man appeared from the hold.

"How...are you in my construct. Who are you?"

"I am the construct....and you will be my prophet."
