The Hike to No Name Lake in Oregon [13 large images]

We hiked to No Name Lake in the Three Sisters Wilderness using the Green Lakes trail head. The hike starts off going down Soda Creek Trail. For the first couple miles there is no creek in sight, eventually however we found ourselves at the origin of Soda Creek.

This is the spot where the creek begins, seemingly out of no where. I found this to be very interesting because I had always imagined that all creeks and rivers started with a lake, or at least a pond, but this one just popped out of the ground.

This was about the extent of what we were going to see of Soda Creek. Not long after passing the headwaters we met up with another trail that turned in towards Broken Top mountain. This new trail steadily climbed for miles. It wasn’t very steep, there were not a lot of switchbacks, just a very long and relentless climb.

We finally make it to No Name Lake, a nice hidden lake high up on Broken Top Mountain. The sky was pretty boring at the time but there was hope that clouds where going to roll in.

We walked around the edge of the lake, and found a patch of wildflowers on the far side.

We found a steep side trail going up to the top of what I believe is McArther Ridge.

Once on top of the ridge, we could see over the other side and got a really good view of South, Middle, and North Sisters Mountains. This photo also features the summit of Broken Top to the far left, so it has all 4 peaks that make up the Three Sisters Wilderness.

This seemed like an appropriate place to take a selfie.

The clouds were starting to roll in at this point and we could see more where on the way so we took a break for food and rested for a while up on that ridge. After a couple very patient hours on the ridge the clouds were taking over the sky. This was my moment so I started shooting. The panorma below is the same shot that I cropped the main photo from at the top of this post. The edges always get warped when doing a pano, so Vinny is looking extra cray in the corner. This is a 365 panorama with a really high resolution, zoom in and check it out!

On our way down I spotted a bit of still water by the lake and could not resist the reflection opportunity.

We backtracked across the meadows and made our way back to our camper at the trail head. The entire journey took about 10 hours.
