Little Crater Lake is the lesser known Crater Lake in Oregon. It is more of a very small pond then a lake, however it is very deep. It is considered a geological oddity and scientists do not agree on how it was formed. The water is crystal clear and is fed by a cold spring, making the water temp a consistent 34 degrees year round. We were there in early October which was ideal because the weather was still very nice but it was late enough in the year that the nearby campground was off-season and free to use. The vertical shot below really shows off how clear the water is and how steep the drop off is right up to the edge of the pond. It is very rare for a body of water to be deeper then it is wide, but this one is just that.

Breaking through the upper atmosphere the tiny craft shook violently. The pilot focused is attention on keeping level. He was going to crash, he didn't want to die. As he rapidly approached the planet he looked for a place to eject. Unfortunately he had dropped in over a mountain range, which made his targets much smaller. It was now or never. He pressed the eject button and his escape pod shot through the bottom of the cabin...hitting the small lake as planned. The force of the entry creating a boom that must have been heard for miles. The water enveloped the pod, bubbles swirled around the cabin. Pressing the escape button the glass of the pod exploded forward releasing him from the confines of his protective sphere. As the water rushed forward it took his breath away.

Swimming up to the light his head broke through the surface of the water. His lungs burned with his first gasp of air. He was lucky to have escaped.

As he crawled to solid ground his eyes scanned the horizon for signs of his ship. He spotted smoke. Thankfully it didn't seem far away....

Thank you to have seen my post and congrats for your photography.

Beautiful, definitely a place I'll explore this summer. Did it seem very popular while you were there?

Not all, however I imagine it does get busy in the summer. The PCT trail is right there as well so its a very popular place for hikers.
