Flight into Sulfur Creek

in #photocontest6 years ago

In my years of camp cook, one of the most memorable jobs was flying into the remote country of the Wilderness area of the Salmon River. These pictures are from 2010. Packing up for the summer and still trying to pack light was a challenge in itself.

We came in on bare ground at the end of may and awoke the next day to this beautiful scene

Parts of me really miss those days and I hold tight to the wonderful memories.

It looked like the last photo when I woke up Thursday morning, driving to work in it was not treasured though. I have only ever flown in big commercial airliners - which detach you from the idea of flying somewhat - I imagine those light aircraft are quite an experience to fly in!

I love flying in the small planes. You can see so much more at 10,000' than you can at 30,000' Much more manuverable as well. I have flown in good and not so good weather. Always exciting. As they say " Flying is the second greatest thrill known to man....the first is landing." I've been on a couple butt puckerers, never afraid though for some reason.

Oh wow! What a breathtakingly beautiful view! 😍

Indeed. I couldn't agree more. I do love flying. Some of our pilots are real bush kind of guys. I trust them totally

OMGosh- I would love to do this. Beautiful place and I love small planes too. My husband and I enjoy backwoods camping and I agree it is challenging to make sure you have everything. It is also fun to figure out how to do without something you 'want'.

The very best times of my life were spent in remote areas of Idaho. I love the simplicity and getting along with out the things you THINK you need. :) I got to old to do these fly in jobs. They don't want us old ladies out there where transportation is very iffy. I sure miss it.
