Fingers Crossed: Luck or Lie

Yesterday I observed there being two seemingly inherent meanings for the hand gesture fingers crossed, namely 1. to wish for luck or 2. to tell a lie. I pondered the relationship between the two meanings, for how are they related? Who is harmed more by the lie: the hearer or the teller? First glance would tell us the hearer is most harmed, and, practically speaking, for most instances the hearer is the worse off? Though on a deeper level, a foundational level one has with their ownself, the teller of the lie seems most harmed. For they're cheating the fire of their soul by fueling it with values of lighter fluid rather than values of chopped logs. Their flame is spontaneously combusting only to flicker away as quickly. Analogously, the same is true with luck. Luck shines brightest but only for a short unrepeatable moment. The lucky fisherman doesn't stay full for long. Though whether the knowledgeable fisherman repeatedly catches fish because he knows the trade or because he deceives the fish is for you to decide...
For now I'll stick with keeping my fingers open ✌

Thanks for reading :)

What if the fisherman isn't lucky, but just knows his own potential and doesn't accept any less of himself?

Then that fisherman knows who he is. Thanks for checking out the post!

Awesome read! I found I am often a little-stitious about things as well haha
