My Summary & Emmendation Of The Meditation Of Marcus Aurelius

in #philosophy6 years ago

Hello beautiful steemians. How is the service to community going on your end?
It’s going great here Alhamdulilah.
Before going into today’s topic, I would love us to support @steemcenturion with upvotes and resteems and upvotes as she was robbed of her property of recent. See more in her post HERE
As @surpassinggoogle says “Out To Inspire” and “SteemitIsBeautiful”, let’s all show her the beauty in human kindness and inspire her to be stronger.
@dynamicgreentk would say “it’s all love”, let us all show her love.
So I was reading a post of @atmosblack which you can read HEREalso on how to achieve inner peace. In the first line he mentioned a word from the Ego’s thought system;

Everything is upside down and real peace is impossible. The reason for this is, because for the Ego, everything in the world causes distress and attack.

I could not help but think more about this and then remembered reading the meditations of Marcus Aurelius Antonius, creating a summary on it. This, I would be sharing the write with my family around the world. But it would be a direspectful thing to speak of a man's work but not know the man himself. So, I would introduce us to Marcus Antonius Aurelius.

Stay Blessed And Read On.

The next line is aimed in some ways to link the words of Marcus Aurelius to the Ego’s thought system and the continuing lines as a lesson to us all.

First Meditation

Marcus Aurelius’ doctrine is that most of the ills of life come to us from our own imagination.

As @atmosblack explained, he said and I quote “duality only exists within the dream and in truth, there is no duality.”

Second Meditation

It is in no power of others to seriously interfere with the calm, temperate life of an individual, and that when a fellow being does anything to you which is unjust, he was acting in ignorance, and instead of letting it stir up anger in us, it should stir PITY for his IGNORANCE.
We should by now have found out by careful self-examination that the fault is with us than it is with the fellow that stirs up anger in us, and our sufferings were rather from our opinions than from anything real.

Third Meditation

The man having the largest intelligence ought to be very generous, be thankful that he has been blessed in so many a ways, he should do all he could in his power to help to enlighten his less favored fellow, rather than be angry at him on account of his misfortune.
Is he not sufficiently punished by being denied the light of ENLIGHTENMENT?

Fourth Meditation

A man’s life should not be valued according to the value of the things to which he gave his attention.

Fifth Meditation

Learn The Following;
(A). Good morals and the government of your temper.
(B). Modesty (C). Manly characters (D). Piety & Beneficence (E). Abstinence
(F). Simplicity in the way of life (G). Freedom of will & undeviating steadiness of purpose
(H). Have good teachers & Spend Liberally (I). Endurance Labor (J). Not listen to slander
(K). Tolerate ignorant persons (L). Not to show off as a man who practices much discipline
(M). Love your kin, speak the truth, Be just, being cheerful in all circumstances
(N). Benevolent disposition. (O). Improve character and discipline (P). Don’t meddle with other people’s affairs.

Sixth Meditation

This is particularly for the lovers of quote, for those that can deduce a lot just by seeing the shortest of quotes and everyone undergoing the journey of life. @elsiekjay, you fall in this criterion and so, this is also for you. Hoping to meet more beautiful souls like you.
Begin the morning by saying to thyself;

“I shall meet with the busybody, the ungrateful, arrogant, deceitful, envious, unsocial. I cannot be injured by any of them, for no one can fix on me what is ugly nor can I be angry with my kinsman, nor hate him. For we are made for co-operation, like feet, like hands, like eyelids, like the rows of the upper and lower teeth. To act against one another, then, is contrary to nature and it is acting against one another to be vexed and to turn away.”

Stay Blessed

Thank you for the mention @rabiujaga!
I have to say, that I'm not a big fan of the old philosophers, because most of the stuff they put out there on the internet in the good old times 😉is some set of rules to live by. They were quite directive - but if you use these as invitations to contemplate the deeper meaning, it may work out for you.
Thank you and blessings! 🙏

I believe they are.
But then when a rule is set to be lived by, we are presented with the choice to do as we will with it.
Thanks for stopping by @atmosblack

These are fantastic teachings. I especially needed the one about ignoring slander.

These concepts need to be brought to young people in an effective way. Our education system could benefit from more philosophy.

Right you are.
When one listen to slander we do not care to find the truth in it.
We just react. Forgetting that an eye for an eye leave the whole world blind.
Even Albert Einstein prescribes that History and philosophy should be necessitated in the school curriculum.
Thank you for stopping by.
Do help with a resteem. Would be much appreciated.
