Why do we need this GIRL POWER?

in #philosophy8 years ago

I've been today to a nice event focusing on startups, ran by women (look at my Steemit badge, btw!:)

As I can be considered as woman entrepreneur with our non-profit startup Handmade Charity, I get invitation like those from time to time.

This event was not particularly special - a nice networking of creative and active women, presenting their projects and talking about the challenges that they face...

But there's one thing that I always find curious in these gatherings, from private roundtables to huge "Women in Business" forums.

Why is it that we still need these specific female centered activities?!

Do women in today's society still feel like a minority?

I have been working in the corporations and large businesses, startups and mature companies, and I have never had any specific experience just because I'm a woman.

No one was pushing me outside the meetings or ignoring my opinion in a male-dominated discussions. Never was I refused a promotion because some guy took over it. I haven't even been harassed! Not even a tiny little sign of harassment!

I am thinking that the very presence of such female-centered communities is a sign that women feel themselves special in a business community.

And this is a mistake!!

We won't be treated equally until we feel equal!

I don't need Girl Power gatherings to prove myself that I CAN DO IT.

If I fail my startup - it's because I have made mistakes. Not because I wear a skirt.

Well, maybe there are some issues with the skirt... I have to think about it..:)

Anyway - Ladies, I believe we are powerful enough not to need any slogans to prove it!!!

And to finalize my thought - here is my favorite Jon Lajoie video. As stupid and hilarious as it is:

Well, I don't particularly think that these meetings exist because women feel inferior. It's just that these meetings and societies etc are formed by different groups of people who have something in common - not necessarily women, but also people of the same profession, groups by hobbies etc. So women are different from men (not less or more powerful, just different), just like photographers are different from scientists etc - and these groups exist so that people who have something in common can share experiences, get in touch etc. I don't think it's because they have something to prove at this point)

I don't considermyself to have any more in common with anyone because they are women or men

I agree - it's like having a people with long hair reunion:) ok, we have something in common, but what do we wanna talk about?)

VERY NICE POST
I commend you for your work

Thanks for you article. you should bring the queen of whiners @veralynn here

I didn't know what was the idea) But I like to read interesting content, even if it is not in line with my personal views

He tagged me because I have a project called women of steemit, where I highlight some of my favorite posts because I feel ladies don't get enough recognition on here.

Good article, btw. I get what you're saying. I like having female spaces because it personally makes me feel safe, but I don't have a problem with integration-- in fact I'm going to be starting another project that is all inclusive.

Thanks for the follow. Following you back. :)

I have looked through your posts -

I like the authors who bring structured messages and keep to their ideas, not just posting on Steemit whatever random stuff they find on the Web. So I don't necessarily need to agree with you to be interested in what you do:)

So I will stay tuned!
